I need to wash my beautiful white office dress, but this is the label. Any idea what it means? Can I not wash it?!

Many thanks!

Looks like no washing or dry cleaning!
You could try a wool wash if your machine has one

purplesequins · 30/06/2021 20:24

what fabric is it?
tbh if unsure I wash on a delicate cycle, low temperature with a slow spin.
and if it turns out worse for wear see what I did here then it's not a garment worth having.

Hadalifeonce · 30/06/2021 20:26

Could it be dry clean only? The fact is has an X through the water suggests it can't be washed.

Polkij · 30/06/2021 20:32

It's polyester. Don't use chlorine bleach. Use a padded cloth when ironing, and iron on low.

Polkij · 30/06/2021 20:34

Dry cleaning ok. Solvent should be a petroleum based substance

Polkij · 30/06/2021 20:35

Cannot wash in water

Argh just wrote a long reply then lost it.

I don't know for sure but think it's polyester (material is similar to my suits). Silky sort of under-layer.

It's ended up with a faint yellowy ring on underarms (gross I know) as it's sleeveless and I've worn it a lot in the hot weather, so really need to get rid of that.

Thanks for your advice. Might try delicate cycle with cool temp and slow spin as @purplesequins suggested...

Yes, the outer shell is 54% polyester and 43% cotton. The inner lining is 100% polyester.

I was giving actual Japanese translation, not guessing! Good luck in the machine... Wink

Are there any other symbols on the other part of the label ? If it's polyester it will wash fine ! Can you take a pic of the dress? Where did you buy it ? It should be able to be washed or dry cleaned but manufacturers ( usually smaller shops who buy in bulk from wholesalers ) often have these labels to avoid returns !

surreygirl1987 · 30/06/2021 21:11

Ooh thank you! Do you think it will wash okay given what @polkij says about it being polyester and cotton?! I seem silly to care so much but it's one if my favourite work dresses! It's from a second hand shop so that gives me no clues! Will take a photo in a mo (just feeding the baby). Thanks so much for your help!

Dry clean with specific solvents only.

Dry clean using hydrocarbons.

surreygirl1987 · 30/06/2021 21:26

Oh nooo! Okay thanks! How on earth do I get the yellowy patches out though? Dry cleaning surely won't do the trick?

If it's polyester just wash it , it will be fine . No dry cleaning won't get the sweat marks out so no point .

surreygirl1987 · 30/06/2021 21:51

Okay many thanks. Will bite the bullet!
