What vacuum cleaner do I want?

We need a new vacuum cleaner. Currently have some sort of upright Vax pet hoover couple of years old, it was brilliant when I bought it really noticed the difference in the carpet but it really doesn't seem to be coping any more. I'm also fed up of cutting the hair off the roll and cleaning the dust filler thingy that it a right PITA a proper clean requires a few cocktail sticks go get rid of all the dust and a long shower afterwards. Hmm.

We have two cats and we all have v long hair. I'm not bothered with cordless. I think I'd prefer bagged. Do bagged vacuums still need need all their filters cleaning constantly to actually hoover properly? (Always had baileys.) Any suggestions please.

I recently got a henry Xtra. Its bagged, but you can get these at tesco/asda/online. They hold 9litre, so rarely need changing. I previously had a dyson, which was literally 20yrs old.

The henry has a much stronger suction and picks up everything- even a ball of wool I left on the floor! I have long hair and it copes fine with that. Only downside is that its heavy and a bit clunky to wheel about.

I was going to say a Miele Cat and Dog but that's over budget in which case I'd go for a Henry too.

Kottbullar · 28/06/2021 19:34

Miele. Reasonably priced and work so well.

AuntieDolly · 28/06/2021 19:48

Don't get a shark. It hoovers OK, but the attachments are rubbish (or maybe I just cant work them!)

DeathMetalMum · 02/07/2021 10:06

Does anyone have a Sebo Felix? I think it looks like what I'm after, but there doesn't seem to be many reviews. Bagged so less maintenance of all the filters but still got the brush head, I know the hair will wrap but looks like I can sort that out without taking the hoover apart. We are mainly carpet so I think an upright is a must unfortunately.

I have a sebo felix! Really, really pleased with it. Carpets look so much better than after using our old Dyson. I find the brush bar really easy to take out too. Would highly recommendSmile

Shark - all day long

AlwaysLatte · 09/07/2021 00:10

We have the Miele Cat and Dog, and a Shark pet upright one. I prefer the Shark.

ElvishFun · 09/07/2021 00:50

I have had a Sebo for fifteen years. It’s still going strong!

jaundicedoutlook · 09/07/2021 07:45

Another vote for Sebo - so much better than anything else I’ve ever had, and the bags really aren’t an issue as they’re fairly cheap on Amazon and hardly ever need replacing.

honeylou42 · 12/07/2021 21:57

Henry here, I have tried most and still think he is the best and only around 💯 quid.

Theoldwoman · 14/07/2021 05:23

I have a Miele C3 Cat & Dog. Brilliant.

rwalker · 14/07/2021 05:27

Kirby hoover off eBay £40 literally lifts the carpet

girlonamission · 14/07/2021 06:04

Miele

bebarkered · 14/07/2021 07:45

I've got a Shark Liftaway Anti Hair Wrap and it's AMAZING

bigbluebus · 14/07/2021 08:23

Another vote for the Shark Liftaway hair wrap here. I've got long hair and on my previous Dyson vacuum cleaner I was forever having to take the scissors to the roller brush to cut the hairs off. Not had to do that since I bought my Shark last Summer. I actually feel like it was designed by someone who does hoovering - love the lift away for doing stairs and all the ways the nozzle (which is the handle) lifts out with ease.

JustALittleLessPain · 14/07/2021 09:46

Pets here too. I’ve tried the Dyson animal and the new Miele Triflex stick but honestly, all the faff cleaning them outweighs the convenience of the light design and just isn’t worth it IMO.

Why would I want to pay £££ to vacuum up all the dust and hair from my house only to get it all over myself and back into the air when I have to empty and clean out all the fiddly bits of it FOUR times during my weekly clean or risk it blocking the sensors and requiring a deep clean with a cotton bud?

I’m back to my trusty Miele C3 Cat and Dog. I hate dragging the thing around but it gives a fantastic clean and just pulling out the bag straight into the bin is a joy! I’d say it is worth the investment.

bebarkered · 14/07/2021 17:33

bigbluebus,
Glad you too like your Shark. Just to mention, before I bought the Shark I had a Dyson upright, and, a Dyson stick. But, I coughed every night in bed (I've got 3 furry cats) Since I got Shark (model number : NV601UK) it's gone. Only put model number in case anyone's interested x

DeathMetalMum · 15/07/2021 07:36

I ended up getting the, sebo felix there was a deal on AO and Amazon both under £200 and so far so good. It's worked really well on the carpet in DC's room which seemed to be a nightmare before hand. Bagged so no faffing around with emptying and cleaning it all the time. I have done two full hoovers of the house and not yet needed to change the bag. The capacity is much bigger than my old car which is another plus.
