Dog smell

I have a large dog, he's a breed that doesn't moult, he's groomed semi-regular and is clean. However all I can smell constantly in my living room is dog. I am a really clean person, I spray my non-washable fabrics with Febreeze daily, vacuum daily, open windows daily. I even have a dog perfume spray to put directly onto my dog but the smell persists.

Has anyone got any tips to get rid of the dog smell. It's really getting me down

Since you're Monica maybe you just have really high standards and it's not that bad? 🤣
Windows open, wash everything washable regularly?

I have an air purifier in the living room it helps a bit.

I think that the febreeze is making it worse. Maybe get an essential oil diffuser (but check and make sure the oils are safe for dogs)?

Have you got carpet?

MonicaGellerBing · 07/06/2021 20:28

Haha @TheVolturi you could be on to something there!

Yes I do have carpet. I spray it down regularly and have it professionally cleaned twice a year.

It's one of those things, I think you're just going to have to embrace the doggy smell 🤷‍♂️. Wax melts have helped mask the pong in my house.

Years ago there was the programme House Doctor. The house revamp expert, Anne Maurice, always complained about the smell of dogs in some people's houses.

Surprisingly, she had a dog herself. She said the secret of not having a house smelling of dog, was to very regularly wash the dog.

You mentioned your dog is groomed. But does the dog have a weekly bath?

MonicaGellerBing · 11/06/2021 18:58

Oh god no @Superdoopersoup he's a huge Goldendoodle who hates water so there's no way I can bath him myself. The best I can manage is spraying him down with doggie deodoriser! He gets groomed professionally every 8 weeks or so

@MonicaGellerBing ours is a goldendoodle too !

The one thing I would say is there is a lot of artificial masking smells going on there - and that's before you mentioned the dogie deodorant Grin.
We got an outdoor hot tap fitted so we could wash him down before bringing him in - would that be an option at all ?

Here's a picture of the smelly furball.

Or maybe no picture

OP I have a basset hound, I bet hands down my house smell worse than yours.
