Utility organisations

We're moving to a house with a utility where the washing machine will be and we'll also put the cats litter box and food bowls.

In our current house lack of space has meant organisation has never managed to get past chucking things in boxes on window sills till they overflow like some flash sponsored buckeroo game.

I want it to look organised, but also attractive and not like clutter. We'll have 2 cupboards, with a sink above and a worktop space of around 3 feet.

I use pods for dishwasher/washing machine. Pouches of cat food and giant bags of cat biscuit and litter.

We also currently have a really horrible, cheap and ugly plastic bin so will replace that but as far as a bin goes the bigger the better.

I'd get a metal cupboard/container for the cat food as it could attract rats.

Organise the cupboards so that there is a place for everything. If there is no space, don't have it.

Buy multipurpose products not individual purpose ones.

Try and give everything a home inside a cupboard so that nothing actually lives on the worktop because once there is something there it will magnetise clutter from all over the house.

If you do keep things on the counter, put them into lidded containers so they look like they belong , not like they’ve been abandoned!

If you haven’t enough cupboard space put in your favourites/essentials first and when you run out of space seriously consider getting rid of what won’t fit!!

I’ve cut down on cleaning products this year - byproduct of the pandemic and now washing up liquid, vinegar and bleach cover most of my requirements.

Use boxes/baskets inside the cupboards and label them. I know it sounds daft but I find it much easier to stay on top of organisation when it looks neat and pretty, and labels help the rest of the family.
