Specifically an expensive one (Dualit)?

Daily use.

I have a kenwood one from the 90's. It's 3rd hand now, has travelled up and down the country, been stored in a garage for ages, and is still working perfectly. I'm going to be gutted when it eventually goes and I have to buy a new one that won't last.

Susie477 · 18/05/2021 19:16

Depends how much it cost. A big-standard one, five or six years. A Dualit, indefinitely.

Jasmine245 · 18/05/2021 19:17

Our Dualit NewGen cost £175 10 years ago. The clockwork dial is now sticking so I am thinking about repairing it. The part is £27.

We've never had more than a few years out of a toaster and we've had both cheap and expensive ones over the years. They always seem to stop toasting both sides of the bread evenly!

parrotonmyshoulder · 18/05/2021 19:21

Our Dualit is 20 years old.

OhRene · 18/05/2021 19:21

I'm 39 and I think I'm still using the first toaster I ever bought. Pretty sure it's a Bush and wasn't overly expensive either.

OhRene · 18/05/2021 19:23

(And by not overly expensive I'm talking £20 range!!!)

hippospot · 18/05/2021 20:08

I checked and ours is an Architect 4-slice toaster.

I must be so unlucky / don't get more than a few years with toasters, kettles, irons or microwaves. Just had 3rd fridge AND washing machine within 10 years. Vacuum cleaners... don't even go there.

Starlightstarbright1 · 18/05/2021 20:15

If it helps mine lasted about 12 minths as my ds watched a tick tock with bread and chocolate spread in a toaster. 🙄.

MirandaMarple · 18/05/2021 20:19

A Dualit I had didn't last long, about 4 years. A four slice with the usual bobble like lever. The levers eventually got wedged.

I've ordered another one recently, a two slice, and it's got an arm like handle, not a lever, IYKWIM. Hoping that lasts.

poorbuthappy · 18/05/2021 20:21

Dualit 3 slice still going 18 years old.

Divineswirls · 20/05/2021 09:24

Actually my toaster is a Tefal Avanti sorry

That's all we've had to replace on ours, so far. It was quite straightforward.
Tootyfilou · 21/05/2021 00:24

My Dualit is 25 years old.

SpnBaby1967 · 22/05/2021 11:40

My toaster cost me £9 from Tesco and 15 years later it's as good as the day I bought it Grin

Likewise the £6 kettle I found in a bargain basket at Tesco is only starting to look worn and need replacing 10 years later. But I got a bit lax with treating the limescale on it lately so that is why.

mylaptopismylapdog · 22/05/2021 11:48

20 plus years and still in good nic
