Looking after a velvet sofa

If anyone owns a velvet sofa can they advise on how they look after if and what products you would recommend? Had new sofa delivered and wanting to look after it :)

So far we’ve been spot cleaning - just water on a sponge, sort of push the water in towards the stain and mop it up again.

We have a velvet brush as well for occasionally smoothing the velvet back out (just brush in the direction the little threads go).

A friend uses a steam cleaner on hers but I’ve been a bit nervous to try that!

@JustKeep what type of velvet brush do you use? When I google velvet brush it comes up with a lint type one or one with bristles. Are the bristle ones not too harsh?

It came with the sofa - it does have bristles, but they seem fine!

My seat cushions can come off and be washed luckily but I do need something to clean the bits that can’t, was thinking vanish 🤔
