What's the best hoover for carpets

I live in a rented flat with really shitty carpets that are a nightmare to hoover so want to get the best possible hoover that the landlord can buy! Suggestions please! TIA

Have a look at Miele, we have a cat and dog one (5yo), it is excellent.

2nd vote for the miele here too - been through a lot of hoovers but miele is holding up and its fab
