Cheesy feet!

Not mine, but DH's, honest! So this is after washing his socks (yes, I do the laundry but it's my favourite chore!) I use the same laundry powder (fairy non-bio) and fabric conditioner that I use for everyone else's washing, and they come out smelling beautiful. However, when I wash DH's clothes, his socks still smell really awful when they come out of the tumble dryer. Not sure if they would smell better if let to dry on the line, but that's not an option every time. What can I do to stop them smelling? It's not normally a big load, so it's not that there's not enough space in the machine. I've tried adding extra conditioner/powder etc. but it makes no difference. They're washed at 60 degrees, same as most loads. Any ideas anyone?

Try soaking them in boiling water with a bit of dettol added and then wash them in the machine

Use bio washing powder the enzymes will help breakdown what is causing the smell.
Also consider making sure socks are 100% cotton .

Either soak them in a solution of Dettol laundry disinfectant liquid before you wash them or add it to the machine drawer instead of softener. Follow the directions on the bottle. Widely available from supermarkets.

My DH has terrible feet 😳 I have to wash his socks separately. I tend to wash them in bio liquid and put in a squib of Zoflora it's the only thing that gets rid of the smell.

Distilled white vinegar in the softener section of your drawer instead of softener.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/05/2021 20:58

You can spray his feet with odaban at night to reduce the sweat.

3 males of the smelly feet variety in our house.
socks cotton only.
washed at 40 on a long cotton cycle with bio powder & extra soda crystals.
never softener. sometimes laundry disinfectant added.

is you dh washing his feet properly with soap and dries them after washing? fresh socks every day?
it certainly helps with the teens if I nag remind them politely.

WindFlower92 · 05/05/2021 22:02

So I've decided to start with a bio detergent, can't believe that didn't occur to me! @redcandlelight I think it's just his job - lots of manual work in heavy boots all day so his socks probably get the brunt of that! Although his tops do come home smelling of oil/chemicals, so I think I'll have to start using something different with them as well!

Wash socks inside out. The cheese is inside the sock.

DinosaurDiana · 08/05/2021 09:28

I had this with DS’s school shirt arm pits. I solved it by using biological powder.

Archiduchesse · 08/05/2021 09:54

Get him to soak his feet regularly in a hibiscrub solution. That should improve the cheesiness!
