washing help

Today I decided to wash my toilet pedistal mat that is part of a set that goes with my bath mat. I put the pedistal mat in the machine and it washed but would not spin. I turned it to the spin cycle an it still would not spin. I thought there was something wrong with the machine because the mat was soaking wet. I rang a company and was told by someone that maybe the pedistal mat was too heavy and the machine could not cope. Maybe the machine thought it was being overloaded and it can damage the machine. I said no i just put the pedistal mat in by itself. However when wet, it becomes very heavy. I was told to try the machine again with clothes to test it and so I did and it worked.

Has anyone else had this issue. I have had to drip dry the mat over the bath

Maybe less that it was too heavy, but more that it was unevenly loaded.
Can you put a wet towel (or the bath mat) in the machine with the current sodden mat and try spinning again?

It needs to balance to spin, so needs another similarly weighted item in the drum too - or to evenly distributethe weight of all the items. Try popping a towel in with it for a rinse and spin cycle.

ok its too late now but will try next time

It'd be fine with a half load of towels, it's the fact it's on its own and like pp said, it's not balanced so won't spin.

Yes modern machines do this - if there is a single heavy item it won't let the spin cycle function. Best to wash it with a few towels at the same time.

My washing machine does this with bath mats. I have to wring as much water out as I can by hand then finish off in the machine.
