Are the carpet cleaners you buy as effective as the ones you rent?

I can't seem to find any that'll rent to me for longer than 48hrs, and I'll need longer than that so considering buying one...are they worth it?

Like a vax? No I don't think so.

We've hired rug doctors in the past and they're much better than a vax.

I just get the carpet man in every six months now and he does the carpets and sofas, can't beat it.

Also how much are you cleaning that you need more than 48hours???

Have you looked at HSS ? We hired a carpet cleaner for a week from them.

@SwampyArmpits to be fair we were doing a post builders clean; we had had an extension built in the summer and they finished putting the kitchen in just before xmas. We hired it for a week and did the only downstairs carpet (which had been in a sealed room) 3 times over a week - the first time the water was the colour of hot chocolate. The last time it was clear. I'm not sure my standards are as high as some people's but the carpets were a lot cleaner afterwards. It was really easy to operate and we got the carpet shampoo from Screwfix as that's cheap (but MN says laundry liquid is fine?)

Vacuum are good I got one for a house DS2 was living in and we let the other two bedrooms. It was just to freshen it up between lodgers.
However after one person DS2 got the rug doctor and it did do a better job.
