Nosebleed all over carpet

Dd had a massive one in the middle of the night that I discovered this morning. Blood trails from her bedroom and landing into the bathroom.

Tips on how best to remove blood stains from light coloured carpet would be much appreciated!

Vanish etc if you have it in, otherwise cold water with a bit of laundry product (powder, liquid etc). Use s sponge to wet the area, then blot with a towel. Keep repeating untìil it's all gone then wash the towel on a cold wash to get rid of the blood that will now be on there instead. (Can do a hot wash afterwards to sanitize if you feel you want to.

Secret with biological stains is not to use hot water as it sets the stain.

I would start with cold water, as quickly as you can. Definitely not warm. Cold water shifts blood stains - DS had a lot of nose bleeds. Start blotting gently working from the outside in so as not to spread it. Then using kitchen roll - dry it and lift out the stain. You will need lots of kitchen roll. I once spilled a whole cup of tea on our beige wool carpet and this worked for me. Took a long time though! Don't over-wet the carpet or you might get damp issues. If that doesn't work then you could try other methods stain removal methods but I would probably give cold water a go first :)

Eek, don't use hot water as it sets the stain, try white vinegar or baking soda (bicarbonate of soda), these both got black oil and red candle wax out of my cream carpet.
Try sprinkling baking soda, work it in with your finger and vacuum after an hour if not try the vinegar, rub it in then rinse it off with a damp cloth, it may take a couple of goes

Cold salty water. Bursts the blood cells so easy to clean. Once the worst is up biological washing powder in lukewarm water, the enzymes will break down anything else.

As pp said, hot water will fix the stain.

I've used Ace on blood on woollen carpets in the past, but test on a hidden area first. Also, are they the sort of carpets which can be bleached with regular bleach?

Saliva has enzymes that break down blood.

I would be surprised, as saliva only contains amylase, which breaks down carbohydrates. It wouldn’t affect blood, which is basically protein, surely?
I have always used cold water for bloodstains, as heat coagulates the protein and binds it into the carpet or clothing fibres.

It worked for me when I had a period stain on the mattress, took the colour right out of the blood stain in a few minutes.
I spit on nosebleed stained hankies too (but I also line dry them in the sun so it could be sunlight in those cases).

Just spent the last hour spraying/mopping up salt solution. Looks good so far but will see how it dries.

Liked fact that salt to hand and no smell!

Yes they did! All gazillion drops of them

And I've showed Dd how to do it for next time!

Two sets of capets - one beige and the other striped grey/multi colour. Cannot see even a hint of blood on the beige and this is hours after the bleed!
