Bugger. Need help!

I cooked fried chicken last night and somehow didn't turn the deep fat frier off. It was on all night. Thankfully we didn't all die in a conflagration but half of the house absolutely reeks like a chip shop.

I've had the windows and doors open all day but it's still malodorous.

It's ingrained isn't it? How can I get rid of it?

Help!

Is the paint on the walls and ceiling OK to be wiped with a slightly damp cloth? ie wipeable

I'd wipe it all, plus doors and frames, steam carpet and sofa if you have a steamer.

Then air a lot and it should clear. All your nearby furniture and soft furnishings will need cleaning

ShrikeAttack · 13/04/2021 19:17

That was my fear @Screwcorona, it's a big house and a big job! Thankfully the doors to 3/4 of the house were closed and it seems not to have penetrated there. Still eight rooms and a hallway to think about.

Absolute nightmare but thank god some doors were shut! If you wipe ceilings wrap a towel around a broom end and tie or elastic band into place, dampen then use that. I've been a cleaner and had to clean a few ceilings in my time 😆

8 rooms is 1/4 of your house?!

NormanCornerstone · 13/04/2021 19:34

You have 32 rooms in your house? Shock

ShrikeAttack · 13/04/2021 19:38

Thanks @Screwcorona, I'll take advice from an expert!

Ish @wineymummy, I have 21 rooms, but the affected rooms make up about 1/4 of the whole house (room sizes vary!).

Another one saying ‘32 rooms!!!’
Would love a floor plan Grin

IndecentCakes · 13/04/2021 19:46

I need to know more about the 21 room house now. Why? How?

ShrikeAttack · 13/04/2021 20:02

It's not bonkers big! Downstairs is kitchen, breakfast room, dining room, two sitting rooms, a study, boot-room, utility room, downstairs bathroom, a snug and two hallways/staircases.

Upstairs is six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a study and a large attic room.
