DH needs a new iron - what should I buy him (& can I persuade him it's a Christmas present?)

Well probably not on the Christmas present front

So do I buy
*a cheap one - because we kill them often
*an expensive one - because you get what you pay for
*a steam generator - because new is obviously better
*one of those 'turny' things that say you can iron tonnes in a short length of time

I do not iron so I have no say in the choice - but I thought you MNetters who iron might have an opinion.

TIA
KMc

Is it because a man irons or is it just too boring for a Sunday evening

I would not go for the cheap one but i would also not go for the big steam generator ones as i don't rate them, i have one & it also broke.

I would go middle ground about £30-£40 with lots of steam.

Thanks - I thought it was too boring to even consider

That's what we did last time - it only lasted about 18m

I have a steam iron without a cord attached - makes the wizzy bits easier and wayhay my dd is a dab hand with the wizzy bits.

We bought humdinger state of art Rowenta and it was shitty shiteous shite

Buy a Philps Azur... brilliant and cheap
MIl recommended and she loves ironing

ScoobyDoo · 11/11/2007 19:29

Piffle i think i have the philips one.. will look in a min as need to do ironing

HairyIrene · 11/11/2007 19:30

impressed at your ironing man!..
dh says teach me but doesnt move to look

i'd go mid range, £30 - £40 ish, is there anywhere that guarantees them like john lewis if his ironing habits dont allow them to survive long..free 2 year thing might be useful...

pin a new man badge on him and big kiss
but
i wouldnt ever offer household equipment to anyone for christmas..
...cannot forget the look on my mums face as she opened her plastic tablecloth ....
