Black granite

Any advice how to clean a black granite kitchen work top in a hard water area? Only fitted 3 months and already white residue around the taps and drainer groves. Have been using a pot scrubbing brush with soap but it's not fantastic

Washing up liquid it's the best. Wash, rinse and dry with a tea towel. Avoid leaving anything acidic as it will stain permanently. Ours look great even after 10 years.

It sounds like limescale. I get rid of it by soaking a piece of kitchen towel in vinegar (any cheap vinegar, any colour - I buy 5 litres of white vinegar for about £2.00 from Asian supermarkets or wholesalers).

Leave the soaked kitchen towel on the affected surface for as long as you want. Minimum a couple of hours, overnight if you can. Tie it around taps if you need to. In the morning clean with your usual cleaner.

Yes it's definitely limescale. Do you put diluted vinegar on a granite surface? I was worried about damaging it

Method do a granite cleaner, never tried it though.

I use the method cleaner, it's brilliant. Put it on with a damp microfibre cloth and buff off with a dry one

I use neat vinegar. I've been doing it for 16 years and the worktops are absolutely fine. Granite (unlike marble) is pretty tough!

Method granite or glass cleaner.

With a micro fibre cloth

Barkeeper's Friend. It's a powder in a bottle and you dampen it. Takes off all the grease and scale. Then you buff the worktop with the clean dry cloth.
I've found Method's granite cleaner to be crap.

Fine wire wool will get it off instantly without damaging the surface or losing the sheen. Used it on my black granite for years.
