The biggest dust traps in the house?

Kai1981 · 29/03/2021 10:15

Moving to a new home and as I'm fed up of dusting everything and sneezing all the time, I'm looking for ways to cut down on places to dust!

Here's a few so far:

Low profile light switches and plug area
Wooden floors rather than carpets
Bookcases with glass doors rather than open

Any thoughts welcome!

Thanks

The small windows above the upstairs bedroom doors - the sills are often forgotten.

The wide flat surface on the top of the extractor fan.

Lights and lamps.

Behind bedside lockers

Behind the door and under furniture when you have wooden floors.

The rooms with the windows open will be far dustier.

Depending on where you live, the colour of the dust will vary from room to room.

Under the dresser.

Change your pillows every six months (I have dust anaphylaxis, this is what I have to do, it does help).

Wooden blinds, not curtains.

No upholstered furniture.

Get a robot vacuum cleaner
Damp wipe, don’t dust
Wash bedding, towels etc at 60 degrees
Metal bed frame (not a fussy one)

Wooden floors are a horror for dust!

picklemewalnuts · 09/04/2021 22:10

@gavisconismyfriend they have less dust than carpets, but the dust is more visible/trapped. The dust is still there, but you can suck it off a wooden floor.

Mirror and picture frames. Door moulding. Curtains.

Don’t have column radiators nor shutters

HopeClearwater · 13/04/2021 21:50

Fluffy towels that shed

Too many humans

Etc

Quit4me · 13/04/2021 21:53

Moved from carpets to wooden floors in almost every room.
Nightmare for dust. Moves all around rather than staying put.
Worst room is the bathroom. Too fiddly and small to get a Hoover in very well but the floor is a wet dust nightmare all the time!

marly11 · 13/04/2021 21:54

Double radiators with grills on the top. (I worked out how to take off the tops for the first time in my life last week and get a long thin radiator duster thing within - it was gross...)

Hexinthecity · 13/04/2021 21:55

Top of kitchen cupboards go all the way to the ceiling instead! Ditto to freestanding wardrobes, go fitted instead to loose the top surface. Blinds instead of curtains. Ceiling spotlights instead of pendants where you can.
Can’t think of any more just now

spilledthebeans · 13/04/2021 23:21

Edge of the bath, freestanding.

Don't buy cats Grin

I do love the felines but when I close the door or move the coffee table there are little tumbleweedy balls of fluff there .
And the stair carpet absorbs their fur !
