How do you store your bath towels?

MagpiePi · 22/03/2021 16:21

As in real life, not the two or three colour co-ordinated towels neatly rolled in a wicker basket or on a cupboard shelf that Pinteresters and Housekeeping gurus seem to think is the way?

I currently have the old oval shaped baby bath in a cupboard with probably 10 or more random towels. I have tried to roll the towels and stand them on end, but if the DSs put any away they are roughly folded and shoved on top. And then it all goes to cock when somebody wants a particular towel and pulls it out from the bottom. The same goes for trying to roll or fold them and stack them directly on a shelf. It all ends up in a mess.

I fold mine in a specific way and they get stacked on a shelf in the bathroom.
Woe betide anyone fucking about digging at the bottom, they are all taught to take the top towel only.

dementedpixie · 22/03/2021 16:36

In the cupboard of doom that houses the hot water cylinder. And the towel I want is always at the bottom.

BertieBotts · 22/03/2021 16:37

In the bottom of my wardrobe. Bedding is in the bottom of DH's.

We don't have an airing cupboard, and no space in the bathroom for shelves.

BertieBotts · 22/03/2021 16:38

Could you show the DS's how to roll them? Seems easy enough for them to do.

homesickinscotland · 22/03/2021 16:39

Shelving under the stairs (where the hot water tank is)

RunningFromInsanity · 22/03/2021 16:40

Folded up in a plastic storage tub in the airing cupboard.

And despite having several, I tend to just use the same 2 towels from the top of the pile.

bigbluebus · 22/03/2021 16:53

On a shelf in the airing cupboard above the hot water cylinder.

Ragwort · 22/03/2021 16:57

I've got a old pine blanket box in my bedroom to store towels, but like others I just tend to use the same two all the time Grin ... it was a lockdown project to sort my towels but I always seen to have lots 'just in case' ... I like to have old ones for my DS to use for sport or take to Uni ... in case I never see them again!

NeedaLittleNap · 22/03/2021 18:52

In a pile in the airing cupboard. The pile consists of 4 bath towels (one for each of us, colour coded) and about 4 hand towels. Swimming/beach towels (again one for each of us) and a couple of odd spares are either in the top of a wardrobe or on DCs' drawers with their swimming costumes, back when they could have weekly lessons.

MagpiePi · 22/03/2021 20:20

Haha, Thanks to everyone!

I'm kind of glad to hear that most people have a random pile rather than soem kind instagramable, colour coded creation of towels folded to origami standards. Tbh, I am as guilty as the lads of not being arsed to roll them up before putting them away.

I suppose one benefit of them all jsut being rammed in to the cupboard is that the cat can't crawl in and make a bed there. Grin

DH put extra shelves in the airing cupboard. All bed linen and towels (apart Ron downstairs loo ones) are in there. It’s usually chaos and I tidy it about once a year.

Komplement pull-out basket from IKEA in the wardrobe

NeedaLittleNap · 22/03/2021 20:47

That's what cupboards are for! I would call your baby bath contraption organised.

My mum has "show towels" rolled in all the bathrooms but they are as well as the massive pile in her airing cupboard, not instead of. I am not organised enough to add show towel admin to my to do list, and I have no wish to become so.

MeadowHay · 22/03/2021 20:50

DD's few toddler towels are in her wardrobe in her bedroom. The rest are kept in a wardrobe in our spare bedroom.

Soontobe60 · 22/03/2021 20:53

When my girls still lived at home we each had our own colour coded bath towels that we kept in our bedrooms! Me and DH had a nice wooden clothes rack thingy that they went on, DDs had radiator drier thingies to put theirs on - although they generally stored them on the floor 🤣. We each had 2 bath towels. All got 1 set washed every weekend.
Hand towels in the airing cupboard opposite the bathroom.

AmelieTaylor · 22/03/2021 21:01

On a shelf in what was the airing cupboard before we got the combi boiler.

FangsForTheMemory · 22/03/2021 21:22

I’ve got mine on a bamboo shelving unit bought for the purpose. It’s in the bathroom. However I live alone so there’s only me messing it up.

speakout · 22/03/2021 21:31

A linen cupboard at the top of the stairs- folded. The cupboard has fixed wooden shelves and each shelf is designated.
So one shelf for hand towels- I have around 12, one shelf for bath towels. one shelf for base sheets ( all white) one shelf for duvet sets- I keep matching pillow cases folded inside, so each bundle is a set. One shelf for extra pillow cases ( all white).
Shelves near the top are for items that I don't use frequently- seasonal table cloths and cushion covers, picnic blankets.
I have another linen cupboard for bulkier items- mattress protectors, spare duvets, pillows etc.

OverByYer · 22/03/2021 21:34

On a stupidly small shelf in my airing cupboard which every time I open the towels fall out onto my head

MadMadMadamMim · 22/03/2021 21:37

I've got a large pine cupboard in the bathroom and they are (roughly) folded and shoved in that at the bottom. I have far too many rubbish towels and no nice ones.

I fuck about digging for the best ones when I want a bath. I don't know what the rest of the household do.

longtompot · 22/03/2021 21:38

Bath towels and sheets are folded in the airing cupboard. Hand towels are in a neat folded stack on top of the bathroom cupboard.

LockdownIsDragging · 22/03/2021 21:39

We each have our own bath towel in different colours and once they are dry (over the bannister) they are put away on a metal shelf above the radiator. I have a pile of old towels in a cupboard which we use for the beach.
Rack is like this one

KirstenBlest · 26/03/2021 12:08

On a shelf in the airing cupboard above the hot water cylinder.
New ones at the back in a neat folded stack, clean used ones at the front in a neat folded stack.
Top ones used a lot more, so get worn out more quickly.

TwunchOfBats · 29/03/2021 14:32

@dementedpixie

In the cupboard of doom that houses the hot water cylinder. And the towel I want is always at the bottom.
Yep, I do this. Except I also replaced all the towels with exactly the same towlel- but in two different sizes. That way, there is no incentive to dig around for a specific towel.

They still end up in a mess in there, though Grin

joystir59 · 29/03/2021 14:34

I have a big wooden cargo crate in the bedroom that's been adapted to use as a linen store. My oh used to work in a cargo shed at Heathrow airport and brought it home with her one day.
