How often do you clean behind kitchen appliances?

Because my son spilled milk this morning and we had to pull out the fridge freezer and it was grim behind there 🤢 I can't remember the last time I cleaned behind there if I'm totally honest 😳
I cleaned behind dishwasher and washing machine when we had a new W.M. a few months ago.

You have to clean behind them? Shock

The fridge/freezer has been treated to 2 cleans this year, lucky thing. Once when it stated making a funny noise so we defrosted it and hoovered the grill at the back and once when we redecorated.

as little as often would pull out if something got spilled but most of the time what i cant see i dont worry about

CompleteBarstool · 14/03/2021 13:27

Only if they're pulled out for a repair or being replaced !

Although obviously I would also pull out and clean under and behind them if I spilled something down the back or underneath.

BiteyShark · 14/03/2021 13:29

Everything is integrated apart from the American style fridge freezer which I pull out about 4 times a year and hoover the vents because my understanding is that a build up of dust on them is a fire hazard.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/03/2021 13:29

I have a hoover attachment that goes under appliances so I give them a go once a week or so. We also pull them out, which is easy for us, twice a year to do a proper steam mopping.

Oblomov21 · 14/03/2021 13:31

Never. When we had the kitchen replaced. Are you supposed to?

PanamaPattie · 14/03/2021 13:34

Never. I move instead.

Ifailed · 14/03/2021 13:34

never, why would you - do you take up the floorboards and clean under them as well?

JanewaysBun · 14/03/2021 13:35

Last time? Probably 20never Blush

FinallyHere · 17/03/2021 15:54

Repair, replacement or when we move house. Doesn't everyone ?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/03/2021 15:57

Never.

FedNlanders · 17/03/2021 15:58

Probably once every 18mths

Redsquirrel5 · 17/03/2021 17:36

About every six weeks when I do an extra clean in the kitchen for the free standing fridge. Dishwasher and washing machine are integrated and the freezer is in the shed where it is stone so spiders webs galore. The old drier is out there too. I can’t move the stove it took two strong men and special material to put that in place.

I vacuum under and the back of the fridge as we were told to do that when it wasn’t working properly. We also used paper towel to clean the drip hole.

PotteringAlong · 17/03/2021 17:37

Never! No one can see it! Ditto the behind the sofa...

BlackeyedSusan · 20/03/2021 12:26

When we have a new appliance!

Cooker a bit more often, maybe once a year. It is easier to get out.

ImFree2doasiwant · 20/03/2021 16:41

Really need to pull my cooker out,but am a bit scared of messing the gas connector up, its bottled gas as we don't have mains. I know its gross as there's a too big gap at the sides that food falls down when I'm cooking.

AnnaMagnani · 20/03/2021 16:43

This is a thing?

Never.

melj1213 · 20/03/2021 16:54

Unless something like milk was spilled and went under the appliance, pretty much never.

I moved into my HA flat a couple of years ago and I only cleaned where all the appliances stand about a month ago, and that was only because the HA was replacing all the kitchens so we had to move all the appliances out and I didnt want the kitchen fitters to see the two years of accumulated crumbs and dust just sitting there when they arrived!

I have the same gap by my cooker and I just use the long narrow crevice attachment on my hoover to give it a quick once over every few weeks to keep the worst of the crumbs/cooking spills at bay
ImFree2doasiwant · 20/03/2021 17:55

Its not wide enough for any of the hoover attachments sadly.

Me too!
BertieBotts · 20/03/2021 17:57

Only when we move or get a new one or if there's a big spill.

One of my friends had this issue with the attachment not being long enough so she fashioned her own "attachment" from a wrapping paper tube.

She found that the cardboard tube from some wrapping paper (I guess a kitchen roll tube would work if you just need a bit of extra reach) fits perfectly over the end of her hoover pipe, so she just flattened the end a bit to get up against the wall easier. Its not quite as good as if using a proper attachment but better than nothing, if even just the big bits of dust/dirt get picked up then it's less left on the floor
