Fabric softener doesn't make my clothes smell nice!!

Lol urgent query over here.

So my MIL does laundry and it smells amazing, so she told me what fabric softener she uses - and I've tried it and my laundry smells of nothing!

I've had this issue with my washing machine, but never gotten a solution - no matter what I use, clothes come out smelling...kind of iron-y and almost burnt in a way? I've tried lowering the temperature and washing on different settings, using different products, and it doesn't help.

Has anyone else had this?

I find the same and I've had many washing machines over the years. I can smell it when I bring the wet clothes out the machine but once they are dry I don't smell anything. Then I tried Lenor Sunshine Burst. It has a lovely scent that lasts for ages.

I find synthetic materials hold the small much more than cotton. So my fleece dressing gown smells quite strong (too much, actually) but towels & bedding hardly at all. My son's poly cotton duvet cover smells more strongly.

I thought it was just me!

My ex returns kids clothes smelling lovely but whatever I do I can't get my washes to comes out the same 🤷‍♀️

Yep. There's a kid I taught whose clothes always smelt amazing and I asked his mum what she used. I bought the same and was so excited for beautifully scented clothes. Nope. I have found if I tjmble dry stuff the smells disappears completely but air drying is a little better.
