Powder left in washing machine drawer after wash.

Sorry, not the most riveting of subjects.

As the title says, when my wash is over, there’s a clump of wet powder left in the drawer of my washing machine.

I’ve done a few cleaning washes, high temp washes etc, cleaned the filter, cleaned out the drawer itself. Nothing has worked so far.

I don’t think I’ve changed anything but I do think it started after I used Calgon in the machine for the first (and only!) time. But that could be coincidence.

Any ideas? Thanks, and I hope this hasn’t been too exciting.

I no longer put powder in the drawer, but tip it into the machine instead.

BigTallyWacker · 07/03/2021 22:52

I just put the powder straight into the drum with the washing.

Wow. I’ve never heard of this.

I don’t use powder for this reason.

This happened to me and when I checked the manual I'd been putting it in the wrong compartment of the drawer for years 🙈

I change to tablets because that kept happening with my machine.
I wouldn't go back to powder now.

Hmm this happens to me too. Never a lot but most definitely a clump. I always found powder better than liquids as liquids make my machine smell musty. But I'm getting a bit frustrated thinking that my clothes aren't getting washed as well, plus it's a waste of powder for it to just clump up in the drawer. I might try chucking it in the drum, hadn't thought to do that!!

I don’t use powder for this reason.
And this leads to a black, gunky machine. A bit of powder cake is preferable.

To OP, I find the lumps tend to grow around a fixed point. Cleaning with the Dr beckmann's liquid, or simply descaling with vinegar, tends to stop it.

I hate that messy residue. I use all in one tabs to just throw into the machine now - no need to use the drawer.
