Splash marks on leather Dr Martens - how to remove?

Hi all,

I have a pair of Docs, black leather. Only worn them twice and decided breaking them in is not for me. I’ve left them in a cupboard for at least 4 years - now I want to clean them up to resell.

They have some puddle splash marks on the leather. I thought a damp cloth would shift it, as the marks were a little muddy, but no joy!

Any remedies that do not involve buying a specific boot polish?

Thank you.

White vinegar usually do the trick. Wipe the shoe with it. I've not used it on DMs but I have used it to remove watermarks off leather shoes.

Another something you probably already have in the house is a baby wipe, or a little soap and water.

Thank you, will give all a go! They have good resale value so didn’t want to damage them!

If you are selling them on ebay watch out for CFs. Put in the listing the model name, and whether they are a woman's shoe or unisex and put the size in the title. Photograph the soles and where it says the size. It might be worth sending them Signed For.

Sorry if I am teaching granny to suck eggs, but i have for the third time been sent footwear not in the size listed. Unfortunately the beautiful, perfect boots are too big so of no use. In each case the shoe size was clearly marked.

I've bought and sold quite a few pairs of DMs.

Thanks @ILoveShula, I will be extra careful - I always put recorded delivery on anyhow, but will be super explicit with sizing and condition!
