How to remove perment marker???

BelleEtoile · 27/02/2021 09:35

My 3 year old went on a 5 minute rampage yesterday with a black Sharpie permanent marker while I took a work call.
He drew on:
Oak stairs,floor and cabinet
White painted kitchen units
Painted walls
Stainless steel fridge
Glass in front door....and probably a few other places I havent spotted yet.

So far I have tried with no luck:
Hairspray
Toothpaste
Peanut butter
Vinegar
Baby wipes

Can someone please help me clean it off

Nail varnish remover.
I've had to use up it when my Dd drew in the house and my Cubs used permanent markers on the new whiteboards in our Den.

Test in a small area first for each type of surface.

Thanks BiddyPop. I only have acetone free remover...fingers crossed it will work

Try hand sanitizer, it came off our oak floor and white bookcase

purplecorkheart · 27/02/2021 11:03

I saw something on Instagram where some used steam and rubbing alcohol (whatever that is) to get permanent marker off a surface that looked like a stool.

A board marker.

I'm a teacher - as a newly qualified supply teacher I wrote on the whiteboards in permanent marker. The experienced teacher next door told me to write over it in board pen then rub it off

It worked! 20 years ago and I still can't believe I was so stupid

Nail varnish remover with acetone
Vodka or gin
Hand sanitiser

Try the fridge and glass first. They should be the easiest. Check somewhere inconspicuous on tye oak stuff first - you might wreck the varnish.

Maybe a magic eraser for the painted surfaces? Might be easier to repaint if you still have the stuff.

Good luck!

My son drew on his wall with permanent marker. He used those magic eraser sponges and that worked quite well. Also try nail varnish remove WITH acetone.

Glasses wipes, Brasso (might stain some more absorbent surfaces)

fixyourgardengate · 02/03/2021 14:11

Hand sanitiser is the quickest way to get permanent marker off my hands, presumably the alcohol content.

I'd try that followed by a baby wipe!

FelicityPike · 02/03/2021 14:11

Pink stuff or hand sanitiser.

KirstenBlest · 02/03/2021 17:56

Magic eraser

Cloth with surgical spirit on it

Cloth with lighter fluid on it

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 03/03/2021 14:47

Dry wipe board pens. Draw over the top and wipe both away.

It's a standard thing in schools.

NotMeNoNo · 03/03/2021 23:38

try white spirit or alcohol: hand gel or IPA (Isopropyl alcohol) I think that's the same as rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit.

Once loosened with alcohol give it a good clean with detergent.

When Ds1 took a green CD marker (those were the days) to my tft computer monitor a dry wipe marker took it straight off.

Baby wipes work well, too. The cheaper the better, mind
