Stain Remover Stained My Carpet

Hey guys,

So thought I'd try out the new carpet stain remover on some stubborn stains on my hallway carpet. I followed the instructions to the T, even used a timer so I didn't go over the instructed time.

This is the result... Very obvious where I tried to clean. I'm devastated. Again I used water to scrub and it's done nothing. This is dry.

I'm so upset. It's basically acted like bleach. This carpet is only 2 years old.

What a nightmare, that stuff has done a similar thing to mine, I now use it very sparingly, and the effect has faded over time and its not noticeable any more.
Maybe call a carpet cleaning company, they may be able to even it out with a proper clean of the whole carpet.

Gosh. I use that all the time and it’s never faded my carpets - some are pale like yours but another one is a mid-dark blue and it hasn’t bleached it.

Did you do a patch test (I never do myself)?

Unless it's a wool carpet it's unlikely to have bleached the carpet. Most modern carpets theses days are polypropylene and you can actually use bleach with no issue on those. It may be a case you need to get the whole carpet cleaned and then that will sort out the patches that may just be cleaner than the rest of the carpet.

I'll look into hiring a VAX carpet cleaner if they still do that. Failing that get a professional in...if they're working right now. Could use a refresh anyway, what with a dog and baby running around. Might take a while to save up for it so hope that won't affect it.

Carpet cleaner bleached a patch on my carpet too. I regret it every time I walk past! think you can get someone in to carefully re-dye the patch so maybe one day ...

The patches dont look stained to me they just look clean! I agree get the whole lot cleaned and it'll all match!

Are you sure those bits are just not clean and the rest grubby ?

Hey @VixenAndCub I know a carpet cleaning professional and they've said this isn't bleached, it just looks that way because it's taken the dirt out. Get it professionally cleaned and the whole thing should look like new again. Don't bother with a vax, it's a pita and will end up costing a similar amount.

Maybe? I looked back on photos when it was newly put down and it still looks darker than the patches. Patches make it look like it was near-white and certainly wasn't. I'll try a carpet cleaner and just hope maybe it'll blend in more... 🤞🏻

Hello! This happened to my rug about a fortnight ago! I can confirm said rug is completely normal now it’s had some more dirty shoes over it 😂😂 Dont panic yet....

@userxx @DoubleTweenQueen I do my whole sofa with it, takes a wee while as the nozzles are small but it lifts off so much dirt. It's the best thing I have bought as we have a dog and a fabric sofa!

Did you use the stain remover on the strip of carpet under the radiator adjacent to the wall? Because the cleaned spots look the same colour as those.

Our new carpets were laid last summer, I vaxed them last week and was shocked at the colour difference. It’s surprising how quickly they accumulate dirt.

I'll be hiring a RugDoctor machine since it's a quarter of the price of a professional very soon and get the whole house done. Because the more you guys mention it, you're probably right and that's actually what it's supposed to look like.

Oh yes an after photo please! I wish I’d taken some of my carpets!

The guy who fitted my carpet gave me the best advice that when cleaning it use an offcut off the same carpet to rub the cleaner in as if there is any colour run, which is unlikely, it is putting the same colour back.

Hi, I know this post is a few years old now, but thought it may help anyone with the same problem who may come across it!

I had the same issue where I had used the stain remover on my carpet, it was like this as a grey patch for 10 months.
I used the VAX spot wash a few times (with the solution it comes with) and it has massively improved it :)

When my husband used the carpet cleaner on a spot while I was away, it left a horrible ring around the area. I'm sure it looks worse than the spot. Any suggestions how to get it out? Scared to sue the same thing although have used it in past.

I used bicarbonate of soda on our hall carpet ( beige patterned) where the cats had left a puddle . It turned it orange
I used the cleaner (got a Vax ) and though it lifts the dirt well , the patch is still stubbornly orange .
Carpet is old so I am not too bothered but it's a pain,
