Keeping to the WINDOW CLEANER topic, do you tidy your house before they come?

Because if they looked in my bedroom window, I'd be embarrased. Its not been decorated since we moved in. Wallpaper half pulled off, clean washing everywhere...

We've never had one as dh thinks its an extra cost that we don't need to pay out for. BUT does he ever clean the windows?
No.
I do it by hanging out of the windows upstairs.

I think the neighbours window cleaner fancies me btw

No I don't.

ExplosiveScienceT · 02/11/2007 13:28

I never know when he's coming. I have apologised before for the state of the place and he just chuckled saying he's seen everything before.

Yes I suppose they see some messy houses. The rest of mine's ok, its just my bedroom I'd be bothered about. I could shut the curtains I suppose.

snap janitor!!

I'd think they'd think I was up to something though.

And the truth is dh pops home sometimes and we are.....

I've just clean my outside windows, and it gave me a whole new perspective on my flat.

From the outside looking in, it looks ten times worse!

princessPUMPKINmel · 02/11/2007 13:34

Oh know!!!!

Good grief, no! But the only thing I used to find embarrassing would be if I had not made the bed so if I hear him out the front, I usually had time to nip upstairs and sort the bed out. I did used to think though, that he would think I was an untidy woman, and I used to wonder if he had noticed that the inside of the windows had not been touched since his last visit!

princessPUMPKINmel · 02/11/2007 13:35

Duh!!! I meant 'no'

Yes , my bed is always made. That helps with the whole tidy room issue I think. Its the main bit after all.

i used to leave the curtains/blinds closed on the days they came. I used to HATE being sat in a room with the window cleaner on the other side of the window. Like a fish in a bowl

princessmel · 02/11/2007 13:39

Didn't they think you were odd, sitting in a house with all the blinds shut? !

NomDePlumeOfBonfireSmoke · 02/11/2007 13:41

Presumably they had no idea whether I was in or not

princessmel · 02/11/2007 13:43

How did you pay them then?

NomDePlumeOfBonfireSmoke · 02/11/2007 13:50

They came back in the evenings. He always collected in the evenings in order to 'catch' people in. Most of his round were out at work etc during the day, I should think

iota · 02/11/2007 13:52

I never know on which day the window cleaners are coming, so no, I never tidy up especially

GrapefruitMoon · 02/11/2007 13:58

I usually run around like mad shutting the blinds/curtains upstairs!

Fizzylemonade · 02/11/2007 14:06

No I don't bother tidying. My Dad's mate was a window cleaner and he said it was rare to find a tidy house. Plus he says the more interesting stuff was seeing couples going at it and not realising that the window cleaner had popped up at the window. Trying to explain why he hadn't cleaned that particular window was always funny

I never know when my window cleaner is coming, I pay him whilst he is doing them to save him coming back.

My 2 sons stand at every window they wash and wave at them! They run round the house trying to beat them to the next window. The conservatory is best, they move to each window.

BettySpaghetti · 02/11/2007 14:14

I don't tidy up or close the curtains/blinds but I do try to be out if I know when hes coming otherwise it gets a bit embarrassing when DS appears at every window the cleaner is doing.

The poor man must dread going to houses with small children and having to fake surprise and delight everytime a little face appears the other side of the glass.

3Ddonut · 02/11/2007 14:26

I close the curtains on the really bad rooms but sometimes the curtains are closed in random rooms anyway, dh is quite happy to live like that gggrrrr and sometimes I'm still in bed off nights. I honestly think the window cleaner doesn't care about the state of the house as much as he cares about whether we have the cash for him that day or not

Jojay · 02/11/2007 14:27

Er - no.

I pay him, remember. I don't care what he thinks of my house.

I have no shame you see

nannyL · 02/11/2007 18:15

NO

hes lucky if i actually remember to leave his cheque under the plant pot and not have to return for it at the weekend

(But then my house is normally quite tidy, im sure he's seen worse )
