Which new hoover: Shark corded versus cordless?

Northernlassie1974 · 19/01/2021 08:11

I have a second hand shark flexographic duo clean. I spend the majority of my time unblocking it, cleaning filters and cutting off the hair around the roller. The suction is ok but definitely not as good as it was no matter how much I empty and clean it.

I'm buying a new one, reading reviews im pretty set on a shark but am between the corded lift away and the cordless versions.
I love the idea of cordless and reviews of the most recent model seem good, but I've got friends who swear by the lift away and reviews on this are excellent too..but they haven't used a cordless to compare.

My question is....is the cordless suction as good as corded? I've carpet and hard floors, its a new carpet but is already looking tired in places, I want really good suction to be able to pull up the pile a bit, but also need maximum maneuverability as my stairs curve around and are a bugger to hoover.

Anyone out there who've tried both versions? (mainly interested in the more up to date versions if anyone has that experience)
Both are a lot of money to spend...don't want to regret the splurge!

Don’t get a shark. My shark is shit. Can’t wait for it to die so I can go back to a Henry.

I’m the complete opposite - bought a corded Shark after my Henry died and would never go back!
Mumdiva99 · 19/01/2021 08:14

Corded lift away is fab. I am in year 3 of owning one. (I haven't used the cordless but have read lots if threads like this where corded comes out on top.)

Newfor2021 · 19/01/2021 08:14

I hate my shark!!!!
It constantly dies on me (fully charged battery) it blocks EVERY SINGLE TIME I use it, it’s shit and often I have to sweep afterwards, I’m just grateful I realised how bad it was and kept my trusty old Henry!

cheeseisthebest · 19/01/2021 08:16

I hate my cordless shark too. Only had it a few months. It spits all the dirt back out even after I've unblocked it.

Makegoodchoices · 19/01/2021 08:17

We have a cordless Shark and I HATE it. Blocks constantly (every use).

Buy another brand for goodness sake!

peppermintteadrinker · 19/01/2021 08:17

I have shark cordless which I love but after a few years it has started cutting out with fault lights. I have just changed all the filters so hopefully it's that. I'm lazy with housework though so sometimes it's a great excuse when it doesn't work to ignore the vacuumingGrin

glitterelf · 19/01/2021 08:19

I've gone through so many shit hoovers over the years but now have a SEBO and it's fab ticks all the boxes. It's corded and has a bag but it's much better than all the others I've had.

Tamingofthehamster · 19/01/2021 08:21

Really like my corded liftaway. Good suction. Great for stairs. It is quite heavy though.

OhAnotherNameChange · 19/01/2021 08:25

I have a corded shark liftaway, it is one of my favourite things! I probably love it more than the kids...
It is a bit cumbersome to clean staits but not too much of a pain, but the suction is amazing. I can't use it on the higher suction for our newer carpets as the suction is so strong its difficult to move. My only regret is that I didn't buy an anti-hair wrap model.
I did debate with getting a cordless dyson, but after my last experience with a cordless Bosch with awful battery (please don't ever by cordless bosch!) I decided I would rather deal with the cord and not have to worry about charging time.
Alsp, Shark seem to have some decent reductions on their website 😁

OhAnotherNameChange · 19/01/2021 08:27

Sorry, I should really learn to proof read!

Northernlassie1974 · 19/01/2021 09:01

Thanks everyone. Its so tricky as I've read loads of reviews, there are pros and cons to all brands and hoovers. Generally in my price bracket shark seems to come out on top when I've been researching them! I'm just worried suction isn't as good on cordless as on corded!

We have both - out cordless was about £150, can't remember if it was in the sale or not. I rarely use it - I would get cumbersome Henry out or our corded shark.

Roselilly36 · 21/01/2021 07:02

I love my cordless Shark, I have the pet version, the anti hair wrap really works, I had the Gtech Air Ram before the the Shark is much better IMHO. I always have cordless as I am disabled and a corded models aren’t really safe for me. So much quicker & easier without a cord.

MisgenderedSwan · 21/01/2021 07:16

We have the corded liftaway with anti hair wrap. I love it. The suction is brilliant and it's easy to do the stairs. The anti hair wrap roller still needs unclogging occasionally but we have an exceptionally hairy dog (st Bernard) and 2 long haired girls in the house.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 21/01/2021 07:26

I bought a cordless shark about 16 months ago, ironically after reading lots of rave reviews on MN. It is crap - spits all the rubbish back out every time, and i have cleaned filters as much as possible. It is obviously a fault with some not all, given many love their Shark as pp, but do you really want to roll the dice on whether you spend c.£200 on a piece of crap? Go for corded at the very least.

SuperbGorgonzola · 21/01/2021 07:30

I really like my Shark too.

I couldn't go back to corded anything after having a cordless now. I vacuum downstairs every day after dinner, and upstairs maybe twice per week, and I could not be arsed doing that if I had to deal with plugs and cables.

trevthecat · 21/01/2021 07:50

We have got a cordless shark, anti hair wrap one. Only had it a few weeks so can't say how long it will last. Had a Vax cordless before. We like it. Got two batteries. Feel like it's quite powerful. The hair wrap thing is crap though. Doesn't stop it wrapping. Folds down small. Much better than our Vax. Suppose time will tell but right now, we are happy with it

Crampon · 21/01/2021 13:31

Sorry, ignore that- just remembered the £150 one is also corded but one of the tiny bent over ones. Still crappie.
pistachionuts · 21/01/2021 13:32

I had a shark lift away and hated it, was so heavy!

theneverendinglaundry · 21/01/2021 19:37

I've had a cordless shark flexology for 3 years and it's on its last legs. It has done well though, used every day!

I have just ordered a Shark Liftaway, got a corded one this time so I dont have to keep charging a battery (one charge was not enough to do the whole house thoroughly).

Rafflesway · 24/01/2021 16:22

I have the Shark cordless lift Away!

Have had it for 2 years and 3 months and still love it.

No problems with it at all!

I have a 4 bed/2 bath house with carpets throughout except for bathrooms which have ceramic tile floors and the kitchen/utility which has natural slate flooring.

dementedma · 24/01/2021 16:23

Shark corded here and its bloody brilliant!
