I had some tar stains from where it was trodden into our cream carpet a few months ago. Today I decided to tackle them and remove the stains. Tried several things but ended up using white spirit and like magic, the stains just dissolved! Hurrah!!! These stains were on the stairs, landing, my daughters room and our bedroom. I used the white spirit at about 9.30 and left the windows open all day afterwards in an attempt to ventilate the house.
I also cleaned the carpets using a brand new vax platinum carpet cleaner.
We are now all in bed (including my 6yo DD) and the white spirit smell is pretty strong. My husband, rather dramatically, is worried he “will wake up blind or something”.
I’ve sprinkled bicarbonate on the areas.
Can’t really open all the windows again as its fricking freezing outside and the house has only just come back up to temp after my earlier ventilation attempt!!!
So my questions are

will the fumes kill us all in our sleep?
