Curtains - floor length or sill length?

We're moving into a new house, obviously the curtains we have don't fit the windows in the new place...
So in the lounge, do you do floor length or sill length, radiator under the window and the only radiator in the room.

With a radiator under the window then I wouldn't do floor length or the curtains will stop the heat circulating round the room.
Depending on your radiator type, I'd aim for curtains that just tucked in behind the radiator.

Definitely don’t cover the radiator. Floor length looks much better, but it’s just not practical.

Never curtain a radiator.

We moved our rad when we redecorated, and went long curtains. This winter has been much warmer!

Drop to radiator or sill. Don't tuck - odd, why would you tuck curtains behind a radiator? Too much faff.

I asked a similar question ages ago and someone told me to move the radiators. I only wanted tips on the best way to hang curtains.

Always long curtains. Move the radiator if you really need to.

Sallydally91 · 13/01/2021 23:48

Floor length always - sill length curtains are very ‘functional’ looking. However because of your radiator position full length are not very practical. You could consider a Roman blind instead or if you like the look of curtains a blind with dress floor length curtains I.e. not designed to be closed, just to look nice!

I have wooden blinds and long curtains which are never drawn because of the radiator. I much prefer the look of long curtains

Agree with long curtains that aren't pulled and a thermal roller or roman blind (or shutters) to keep the heat in.

Pollydoll110 · 14/01/2021 04:16

It's a private rent so can't be moving radiators!
I much prefer long curtains too so may need to look into a blind perhaps.
Thank you.

I have blinds to close for privacy and floor length curtains just to make the window look less bare. They don't get drawn in the living room because of the radiator. Love how people just say "move the radiator" as if you can just pick it up and stick it on another wall for free 😂

It often comes up on posts about curtains. Makes me eye roll every time. Hanging a pair of curtains involves a plumber now?!

Radiators are meant to be under the window for effective heat conduction.
