Removing black stains from clothes (off washing machine)

The stupid washing machine in my houseshare keeps leaving marks on my clothes. It is quite a large property with a lot of people living here so I'm not interested in cleaning out the machine, as it will end up dirty again from everyone else.

Is there a way to remove black oil spots left by the washing machine? I did a wash a few days ago and just noticed another t-shirt has been ruined.

I've tried spraying some Vanish on it and handwashing it but it's made no difference :(

From now on I think I'm just gonna handwash all my whites, but at the minute I'd just like to try and save my t-shirt from being ruined

Are you sure they are oil spots? I've had dark streaks on clothes before that have come from a build up of dirt inside the door seal. When the drum is very full with less room for the clothes to move they can get dragged around the seal. If you cleaned it then it probably wouldn't need doing again for a long time.

Thanks, I think you may be right! At the minute though I'm more bothered about trying to fix my ruined clothes if possible, and then will worry about prevention later
