Regular blenders that’s good for pancake/cake batter

Hi,
I’ve got a basic jug blender that I recently started using to mix American pancake and certain cake batters (all thanks to Nigella Lawson recipes where she uses a blender). But my basic blender struggles and it takes ages. I wanted to get something more powerful that isn’t a stand alone cake/bread mixer and that I can still use for smoothies/ things that hold more water content. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I haven't had any success at all using blenders to make batter. I don't know why they don't work, in my head I thought they should - perhaps they are designed for crushing things rather than mixing them? I use a hand mixer like this. They cost £10-£20 and aren't particularly powerful but give great results on all sorts of batter based dishes including pancakes, Yorkshire puddings and waffles. They are also good for whipping cream and mixing cakes but would be absolutely terrible for smoothies!

Confused- Thank you. I’ve got one of those blenders and it works great for regular batter too. I liked the idea of using a blender for certain things because it has fewer bits to clean as it’s just the jug that goes in the dishwasher.
