Oven window cleaning

cheesecake864 · 28/12/2020 14:32

We had new ovens just before Christmas and I am determined to keep them clean!

Any suggestions as I have been wiping them down but they still are getting stubborn brown marks and I'm scared of scratching the glass ?

Please share your top tips thanks

Astonish oven cleaner

Did you keep the manuals? to get oven windows properly clean, you need to dismantle the door. Sounds scary, but if you follow the instructions, it's fine. You can then get each layer of glass clean. I used a hand steamer and a bit of bicarb and they came up lovely!

Pink stuff!

Dishwasher tablets! I cleaned my daughter's oven door and was totally amazed! Usually I swear by the Pink Stuff cream, but this was amazing 👍🏼

I was also going to say dish washer tablets. I saw that tip on MN and it really works.

Don’t use pink stuff! Or cream cleaners etc as it’s can scratch the glass over time and weaken it. Astonish oven cleaner, CIF oven cleaner or the astonish oven and hob paste for stubborn marks.

Top tip do you have double ovens? Sounds completely odd I know but make sure you clean and dry the top one first before putting the second back - I'd give it a good hour before putting the bottom door back on. I speak from experience as a pp said the glass can be taken off and the oven doors properly cleaned 🧼- I learned to my cost even when drying them they still have residual water in them that drips down. So when you put the bottom oven door back gloriously shiny ...... the top drips into it making it yet again - streaky 🙄

How do you use dishwasher tablets? I'm thinking dissolve them into a paste?

They are quite hard. You don't need much water just use the tablet to scrape, it will eventually wear away but I used the same tablet a few times. Not the gel sort with liquid, obviously, the hard sort.

Glass is really hard to scratch, you need diamond to do it! I use a metal scourer on my oven door, have done for the last 15 years, no scratches.

CaptainMyCaptain thanks for the info. Of course I've only got the squidgy capsule ones although I need a new box soon. I'll get the basic tablet ones, cheaper too!

We had our dishwasher fitted with a new pump and the man told us always to buy the cheapest.
