Is there a diary/ guide/ app that can remind me to do things like check the oil level in the car or put salt in the dishwasher or dust the tops of bookshelves? I'm pretty dreadful at this stuff and always seem to get caught out when it's too late. My parents weren't good at keeping on top of things and am trying to be better!

I have tried a couple of apps, but just give up on them. One thing that has stuck is using the calendar that is on my phone/macbook. I've set up different cals including Family shared and annual reminders.

I've put on which bin goes out every week and just repeated fortnightly. As soon as I see changes for holidays, I shift them - that's been useful. You could put things like check car oil and set it up to repeat in the same way.

For the salt in the dishwasher, I've established a pattern of doing that and descaling kettle, coffee maker, iron etc on the 1st of the month. I'm going to try and establish similar routines for other tasks.

Thank you @Cynderella that's a great suggestion. I'll try and find a list of regular jobs to do and put them in a calendar

It's only in the last year that I've used my calendar every day, and that's mainly because the rest of the family now check it and berate me with, "Well, it wasn't on the calendar," if something hasn't been listed.

There's an app called 'Tody' that you should check out. Allows you to set different frequencies for each room / task. Easier than a calendar I think as there's potentially so many things to keep track of.
