The countdown to Christmas - but still decluttering one item a day. Thread number 15

stealthninjamum · 13/12/2020 10:10

Thread number 15 of the ‘declutter one item a day thread’ and this bunch of mumsnetters are still decluttering our houses slowly by getting rid of one item a day.

It’s always challenging at Christmas for declutterers, as we fill our house with more presents, food and children’s toys. This thread should give us a bit more accountability as we keep plugging away slowly while we making our homes more organised and decluttered.

Obviously Christmas won’t be the same this year and the stealthninjahousehold won’t be having any visitors but I’m still keen to spend the last couple of weeks making my house a nicer space to spend time in.

Newbies are always welcome. We just get rid of one item each day and report back on the thread.

That was easy. I found 11 tops and 1 dress to go. The tops were mainly dark vests that had faded.

That was good going stealth

I've sat on the floor and done a rough cleaning of old letters, about half a tree I reckon. Have no shredder so will cut up later. However sitting on the floor has screwed my back and I now can't move properly. Took paracetamol at 9 for a headache the. Ibuprofen at 11.30 so another hour until I can have more. This will be fun with 3 kids! I Def can't lift one. Also the end of today's declutter

ememem84 · 14/01/2021 12:25

sleeping i read that as took 9 paracetamol for headache. i was going to suggest maybe see a dr...but then re read it!

today i have ditched a pair of old shoes of ds'. i bought him two new pairs though to replace. he's very fussy about his shoes. (age 3....)

in is a calendar which is for dm - so will drop that off tomorrow so its only a temporary in.

stealthninjamum · 14/01/2021 13:20

Thanks sleeping the tops were all small vest tops so took up no space so I guess that’s why I’ve missed them before. I hope the drugs kick in soon.

7 books put to one side. Six were a series given by a friend about 15 years ago that I have no interest in. The 7th was a how to save your marriage type book. I’m tempted to burn it as it clearly didn’t work!

I’m up to 86 with Toss which is a lot given how little time I’m spending on it.

just added come candles to my stash in the cupboard - these are naice Jo Malone ones that dh bought me for christmas. if he burns them before i get a chance to i'll burn him...(jokes...i will just be super cross).

so the boxes they came in have been recycled, and the fancy long matches have gone in the drawer with the other matches.

added dome christmas amazon vouchers to my account too (and put the cash in the dc's accounts) - its not much, but it clears them out of a drawer and will ensure i remember to use them and not forget!

SleepingStandingUp · 14/01/2021 13:36

ememem84 tempted, sitting on the floor isn't helping. How do you not sure on the floor with 1 year old twins? DH has swanned back to work and I want to stab him.

I'd go with benign neglect but they're both frigging climbers.

He did make lunch. I'm going to declutter biscuits.

stealthninjamum · 14/01/2021 14:13

sleeping this is the occasion that Disney movies and iPads were invented for. Do you have a room that you can lock yourselves in with a device while you lay on a settee?

ememem84 · 14/01/2021 14:23

Agree. CBeebies. Disney plus. Netflix. Whatever gets you through.

SingToTheSky · 14/01/2021 14:39

Bugger, sleeping no I didn’t 😩 actually forgot last night and today has gone completely wrong. It says Fridays plural on the bag so maybe next week. Pain is bad today so digging in cupboards is a bad idea.

Alas no, not with 1 year olds. DH should be down in an hour. House is a bomb. I don't care. Will go for low down once he's down. He has to work in silence so he Def can't multitask these three and work 😂 Def don't push it today sing, not worth it
stealthninjamum · 14/01/2021 15:22

Sorry sing I had missed you were in pain too.

I’m having such a bad day. Dd2 is refusing to do schoolwork. I feel like going back to bed.

ah. 1 year olds. yes. dd is 18m and she's a climber/escapee/investigator/explorer. she trapped her own hand in the drawer this morning. put hand in drawer and shut drawer at the same time. i'm letting her explore for the most part though. she has to learn right...?

footprintsintheslow · 14/01/2021 19:12

Day 128:
💤 decanted small bottle of stretch mark cream into big bottle so threw away little one.

In desperate pain with blistered bleeding nipples. Not sure you needed to know that. I'm using lansinoh and trying to improve our technique for latching.

ememem84 · 14/01/2021 19:47

Oh footprints I feel your pain. I stopped bf Dd when she was 3 days old because of this. That and also having almost 2 year old ds as well made feeding difficult. Dh sort of made the decision for me though. At 3am he heard me sobbing with pain. So basically went out as soon as shops were open bought formula and that was it. So grateful for the act of kindness.

Not saying give up. But you don’t have to persevere if it’s too much. Xxxx sending love and nipple healing thoughts your way.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/01/2021 20:18

I got a late night booty call at the pharmacy if anyone wants naproxen. Ooh doc called but they're a fair distance in a taxi. Still, I need pain relief.

Sending sympathy to sing and snow

stealthninjamum · 14/01/2021 20:55

That sounds awful footprints I nearly gave up breastfeeding dd1 after 2 days it hurt so much. We went to a breastfeeding clinic and they recommended nipple shields and that really helped.

Sounds like a tough/painful day for a lot of you. Sending Flowers Flowers Flowers. They are digital, so no need to declutter them.

Only a bit of packaging out today. I'm putting off dealing with the Upstairs of Despair...

EllieQ · 14/01/2021 22:08

2021 update day 14:

  1. General decluttering: Shredded more work paperwork, and the delivery slip that came with a parcel today (instead of adding it to the Mountain of Paperwork to be dealt with later).
  2. Toss app prompt: Today it was books, and I have added one book to the charity bag (a Big City Read Book from a few years ago that I didn’t enjoy - why did I keep it?).
  3. Mum’s stuff: Nothing

Just focusing on getting through each day at the moment. Hopefully I can do more at the weekend.

glitterywooly is your foot ok now? I fear this thread is cursed there are so many aches and pains at the moment.

I just threw away another 4 vests and a pair of pyjama trousers. I’m ashamed that I had so many.

Thanks for the praise. The socks were the highlight of the week! Managed 3 mugs today so that was not bad.

Footprints I'm sorry you are having such difficulty. As a bf peer supporter I'd say find some help if you can. Better latch would be the obvious but sometimes it just takes a while. Although bf cafes and clinics must be shut Nct and la leche league have telephone helplines. My inverted nipple 'came out' during my first two weeks of bf twins, which wasn't pleasant...
Toss says medicine and has done for two days, but the drugs which almost certainly need very little sorting, are in the same drawer as much other crap, which does, so I'm disincentivised!

footprintsintheslow · 15/01/2021 01:32

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm determined to carry on and I know it gets better but holy moly it's shit right now. The embarrassing thing is I trained aa a bf peer support and honestly haven't a clue what I'm doing now even though I've been 2 others for years.

Struggling to declutter anything right now. Expect tomorrow's update to say...calpol syringe out.

Inthetropics · 15/01/2021 01:44

Haven't decluttered anything in the last few days and today i've got myself some danish butter cookies and have only just now realised that the lovely lovely tin they came in should probably obviously count as an in. Blush My current numbers are now the following:

Out: 18
In: 13

Since Toss hasn't actualy worked for me, i spent a couple of minutes searching for new resources to help me declutter and am pleased to say i've found a list of 365 things to declutter on a blog. Yay! I'm very excited to start going prompt by prompt this friday/weekend and see what else i can get rid of that is of no use to me anymore.

It happens to all of us. I don't have children and don't know much when it comes to bf but i am a psychologist and - trust me - most of the time i'm freaking out in my own life, so there you have it! Grin Hope it gets better soon.
ememem84 · 15/01/2021 07:29

Have just emailed our local hospice charity shop and have asked them to collect our old bedside cabinets. They aren’t open currently but are collecting donations.

These should be gone within the next week. Yay.

I’ve also texted riding instructor to see if she wants my old hat for the stables.
