Thread number 15 of the ‘declutter one item a day thread’ and this bunch of mumsnetters are still decluttering our houses slowly by getting rid of one item a day.

It’s always challenging at Christmas for declutterers, as we fill our house with more presents, food and children’s toys. This thread should give us a bit more accountability as we keep plugging away slowly while we making our homes more organised and decluttered.

Obviously Christmas won’t be the same this year and the stealthninjahousehold won’t be having any visitors but I’m still keen to spend the last couple of weeks making my house a nicer space to spend time in.

Newbies are always welcome. We just get rid of one item each day and report back on the thread.

Recycling to go out today.

Yesterday I finished the last of the washing powder and moved on to the masses of capsules we have (amazon subscribe and save). 2 Boxes decluttered as I decanted them into the tub I have.

Today I’m aiming to get a Christmas present round to dfriends little girl. It’s raining though so need to hope their garage is open so I can leave it. Friend has just had a new baby and whilst I’m dying to see him I don’t want to Interrupt (also covid restrictions here means no going in others houses) I said I’d leave present on doorstep and run.

@ellieq I agree, I don’t like big companies owning stuff I pay for like music or films but I keep getting rid of them in dribs and drabs and when I want to listen to something I tend to go on YouTube or Alexa. About a ago I started looking into getting a server to store everything on so that I could then get rid of it but then covid happened and I have much higher priorities.

sleepingstandingup I have joined another Facebook group for getting rid of stuff free but no one wanted the last thing I advertised. A lot of the stuff now should be easy to sell - early learning books, Duplo, orchard toys so I’m just irritated that my main Facebook sales page has been switched off due to the lockdown.

Toss has once again suggested I do my car boot so rather than keep rejecting Toss’s suggestions I’m going to go out and tidy it. Since my Flylady experience last summer I am pretty good with the car but I’m sure I can find one receipt in there- if only to move Toss on to new areas!

@stealthninjamum toss prompted me to do the car boot as well today. i skipped it as know there's things in there which i need. DDS pram, wellies etc. and also dh has taken the car to work...

i have ditched a few receipts though, and have given my emails a thorough declutter.

@ememem84 I was tempted to just click ‘done’ on the Toss task but it’s because i never stick to anything that I’m in this mess so I’ll at least go out in the cold and do the car boot.

I’ve just deleted 50 photos from my laptop from 2005. They were quite small files in those days so I don’t know how I’ve managed to fill a whole laptop up. My laptop’s working much better since I started deleting files last week.

I also did some shredding for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Car boot done. I found two old Sainsbury’s receipts. My boot’s full of bags for life so is a bit of a mess but fairly clutterfree. I did find some Xmas crackers I bought for half price after Xmas so I have put them in the Xmas cupboard.

stealth I had a sort of my bags in the car boot - estate car. Folded all the plastic ones and then put them in to a canvas bag. At least now they all stay in one place rather than sliding all over the boot.

Couple of mismatched plastic food storage items gone. Some postal receipts now I can see they’ve been delivered.

Toss told me to declutter the freezer but I've already done it. It came up with this great quote: "Clutter is the physical manifestation of unmade decisions fuelled by procrastination" - Christina Scalise

Lots of other work to do, I'm feeling lethargic with winter and home schooling is driving me nuts. DD will not listen and we are days behind already.

2021 day 11 update:

1. General decluttering: Shredded more work paperwork. I must be halfway done by now!
2. Toss app prompt: Today the prompt was to go through a shelf in your bathroom cabinet, and I threw out a tube of Body Shop face mask that was several years old
3. Mum’s stuff: nothing today.

I like that quote from Toss about unmade decisions - very true. I’m finding the app very useful as it means I do at least one new area every day that I would ignore otherwise.

Got rid of some old ear drops that should have been discarded 3.5 years ago (med safe disposal bag is growing). Also tossed a mini toothpaste. I was planning to just use it up, but it tasted funny...more than a year OOD.

81: gone through the second box of your and discarded some more toys - floor piano, some baby toys they've never been interested, and a book they have in duplicate
82: Christmas tealight candle holders
83: a hand made advent calendar that's faffy, battered and missing a box
84: the advent ribbon which has been used for home made banners since Xmas. There's been one banner or another on that wall since DSs birthday 18 months ago. Looks weird.
