How can I wash battered old toy safely?

I want to wash old toy thats been 'loved' a lot. He's 32 now and needs a bloody good wash but I'm scared to put him in the machine incase he falls apart (a lot of his stuffing is hanging out). I dont think handwash would really do the job.

Any housekeeping tips for something like this? TIA

Spray Vanish all over then wrap up really into pillowcase and give wash.
