Burnt caramel on a saucepan

Dd made some millionaire shortbread on the weekend. It is lovely but the caramel caught in the pan. Has anyone got any good ideas of how to clean the pan. So far I have soaked it, put it through the dishwasher, scoured it, soaked with bio washing liquid and boiled on the stove with bio. Any other suggestions please?

Soak it for a week.

I've seen videos of burnt pans being rescued by filling it with cola and leaving it to soak so that might be worth a try.

If it's actual burn caramel still on the pan, I had this recently (thanks DS) and the only way it came off was by filling the pan with water and putting it back on the cooker to heat up until the caramel dissolved in the water. You need to fill it up with lots of water.

Dd votes for cola but I don't have any. Maybe I will just keep putting it on the stove with water.

Either Fairy power spray or leave with something acidic in the bottom- ketchup, cola, baked beans even.

Vinegar? Cherry

I second the water and boil method.

Vinegar boiled is good but smells very strong.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 17/11/2020 18:21

The normal acid-based cleaning stuff won't work on rock-hard caramel, IME.

elephantoverthehill · 17/11/2020 18:25

It is boiling as I type. Yeah I did think that about the vinegar.

If it is stainless steel boil up some soda crystals and then leave 24 hours, before giving it a good scrub.

Oooh I've got soda crystals so now giving that a go.

I also did this at the weekend - I used Pink Stuff left on for a couple of hours and wire wool or a scrub daddy (cold) it came off fine.

Not sure if it would work in caramel but I had an awfully burnt pan and in the end got it clean by boiling a dishwasher tablet in it (it stank the house out though!). Tried coke etc and nothing else did the trick.
