Any tips for my smelly carpet (damp after a leak)

We had a leaking radiator at the weekend, and the carpet got soaked through. We've got as much of the water up as possible, but now the whole of the upstairs is starting to smell damp and musty. Any tips to get rid of the smell? Should I have the heating on full blast for a day or so to dry it out? Going to try vaxing the carpet tonight to make sure it's nice and clean.

We had a large smelly patch of carpet that made the whole room smell vile (we blamed poor cat for not using her litter tray, and tried all sorts of products made for that purpose, to no avail)
Turned out it was actually the carpet cleaner we had hired! It had stale water in it and had leaked when we first brought it into the lounge.
Anyway, I would suggest whacking the heating up to dry it out completely, not just dry to the touch, but the underneath too! Then use '1001 No Vac, Foam Carpet Freshener'. It's about £2 a can, you can get it from Tesco and one can does about 4 meters sq. FAB Stuff - now I've found it, I won't be without it!!!

Thanks for that - have now got heating on full blast. Carpet has been vaxed with 1001 carpet cleaner. Still smelly, but hope it will improve by the morning - if we can bear the heat that long!
