Lining curtains for warmth

Relative is in cold student accommodation. She has floor to ceiling windows with thin curtains but can't make permanent changes to them. Any ideas for fabric and methods of pinning/attaching it to the existing curtains?

She needs to look at what kind of attachment they have eg eyelets of curtain hooks. But you can get thermal linings that aren't attached to the curtain but hung on the same rail.

You could pin fleece fabric/blankets to them. Might not look amazing, but they would be functional.

Yup, ready made separate thermal linings are easy to buy - ours were from John Lewis and they are excellent. She can take them down and keep them when she moves.

In desperation I taped bubblewrap to the window frames in one student house, made a massive difference. Not a great look though!

Just checked and they're boxed in curtain tracks. So maybe pinning or loosely sewing fabric to them would be best.

If there is curtain rufflet you can often hang a second layer from the row below where the curtains are hung

charity shop blankets or fleeces are a good call

You can sew on rufflette tape fairly easily or for a very quick fix use opened up paperclips or a fringed blanket can be tied on
