Help using Brasso!

This might sound daft, sorry Blush

I've taken the door handles off to clean. They are disgusting. I've got Brasso and it seems to be working. I'm just not sure when to stop! They look clean then I think I could go over them again and when I do, the cloth goes black and again I have to spend ages polishing. Does there come a point when the stuff stops going black so you know it's completely clean? Or does it just go black as a reaction with the brass??

Oh yes it’s never ending. Just stop when you’re happy with the finish.

It's a long time since I've used it, but I think if it looks clean you don't keep on putting the brasso on; just give it a final polish with a clean cloth to make sure there's no residue left.

Thanks. I'm torn between amazement at how clean & shiny they are and utter mortification at how filthy they were to begin with!!

It’s not dirt. It’s tarnish. Oxidation.

Thanks @GroundAlmonds. So do I keep at it until the cloth isn't showing any black??

I wouldn’t even try Smile
