How to get rid of the smell of dog?

Good afternoon all, we've recently moved into a house where the previous owners owned a dog. Lovely house and we're really happy.
The only problem is that the living room really smells of doggo. I hired a rug doctor for a weekend which has helped a bit but as soon as we have a couple of damp days where it's not so straightforward to keep the windows open the dog smell comes back. Is it worth me getting the carpet professionally cleaned or do we just have to accept we have to pull (an otherwise fine) carpet up?
Any tips gratefully received!

I'd pull the carpet up

Another vote for pull the carpet. Steam the skirting boards and low down woodenf fittings too

Yep, carpet and underlay and any through-stained floorboards/panelling must all go. There's no fixing it.

We had to get rid of the carpets and curtains they left behind. Plus clean behind the radiators with a wet cloth.

Thankfully they didn’t allow the dog to sleep upstairs, and you could notice the (lack of) smell.

But getting rid of carpets was the only option (and underlay) despite many many carpet washes.

I would zoflora all skirting boards, walls and doors at ‘dog level’ before ripping up the carpet
