Smelly husband

DH works long hours in a stressful job. He wears a uniform which consists of polo tops. He absolutely stinks when he gets home. He sweats in meetings a lot. His tops often still smell when they come out of the wash, the under arm bits almost retain the deodorant/ sweat.
He showers twice a day, wears a clean top and Mitchum antiperspirant deodorant.
Any tips on either how to reduce the sweat/smell in the first place or how to get rid of the smell in the tops gratefully received. It’s really impacting his confidence.

Bit late to post but we use coal tar bar soap AND soak in neat Dettol before washing. It has killed off smells that I thought would never die. Good luck with driclor and stinging.

He needs to drink lots and lots of water and fresh fruit and veg. That will decrease the smell

Wash armpits with Hibiscrub. Clothes with Halo or bio big box powder at 60 degrees. Zofkora Clean Cotton in the fabric conditioner dispenser. Don’t use liquids or capsules as they don’t work on sweat.

It's the bacteria on his skin/hair he needs rid of first.
Tea tree!
Either make up a mixture to apply or try neat. (My dh couldn't use neat at first so be careful) Use everyday, after every shower and there should be some improvement quickly.
My dh is rarely pongy now but if it starts returning he gets the Tea tree oil back out for a few days.
*Double check he can use it with the roll on stuff.
White vinegar in with the wash and as a softener.
Scented softener make the smell worse ime.

We had this problem with stress sweat and solved by stopping using fabric conditioner, rubbing bicarb of soda on the pits of smelly shirts to remove the smell in the first place and only using washing powder and not liquid from then. It took two goes of bicarb with two washes in bio. Nothing has ever smelt again in 3 years! Tips all from previous Mumsnet threads! Good luck

What's the fabric composition of the polo tops? A lot of them are a blend of polyester and cotton, which would make him feel more sweaty. Try to find ones that are 100% cotton as it's more breathable

If you wash your husbands work tops with some vinegar and washing powders that'll remove the sweat stains and the smell.

Maybe he needs to put deodorant on during the day too, to top it up maybe even change his top half way through the day as well as putting deodorant on.
I add zoflora to my wash.
I think if you can get him to go to the go it would be good though, my cousins son had to have an operation for this problem. X

What's his diet like? Totally anecdotal, but I've heard that cutting down on sugar can reduce sweatiness and smell. Also, definitely bar soap instead of shower gel.

wowfudge · 07/11/2020 08:53

Vanish spray on the underarms and collars of the polo shirts, pre wash in the machine with Napisan to kill the bacteria and then main wash on intensive with biological washing powder and extra rinse if possible with your machine.

Yes to him washing with ordinary soap rather than shower gel and trying different deodorants. He might also want to look at his diet as some foods, e.g. strong flavours and lots of garlic can impact on body odour.

Use ariel + antibac laundry cleanser and wash at 60

Botox for the arm-pits?

GeidiPrimes · 27/01/2022 21:23

Armpit shields? Similar to sanitary towels.
