Mould on cloth nappies and bleach wash

I’ve discovered a wet bag with a couple of used reusable nappies and a handful of wipes in the car. Probably been there around 10 days and they have mould on them. Thinking I could try a bleach cycle in the machine but I have no idea where to put the bleach. Google isn’t helping me either. Does it go in the detergent drawer?

Any other suggestions for cleaning? Part of me thinks I should just throw them and not take a risk with mould and DS. I’m not bothered about the wipes but the nappies aren’t cheap.

I would soak them in a bleach solution and then wash in the machine

I agree with the above, I don't think there is any need to through them out.

Soak in bleach and then a good wash. Maybe wash them a few times and give them a good airing out.

*throw!

Bleach whitens mould but doesn’t kill it. Vinegar kills mould.

Wash normally with 1/4 cup of bicarb in and 1/2 cup of cheap vinegar in the fabric conditioner slot. Try and dry on the line if possible.

Repeat the vinegar if necessary and bleach if necessary last.

Thanks everyone. I’ll try the vinegar to kill it and then they’ll probably need the bleach to whiten. Do I just use normal household bleach or does it need to be laundry specific?

I feel so clueless! Laundry is the one household chore I’m obsessed with being on top of so this find has horrified me.

Don't put bleach in your machine, that is only for American/Australian style top loaders. Soak in a bucket of bleach for a bit.

Join the Clean Cloth Nappies group on facebook (or check their website) for loads of helpful info. You need to perform a "sanitisation" and they will tell you all the steps.

Normal bleach or Milton or Nappisan are fine to use. Read the Clean Cloth Nappies advice first as they really are experts and I think they advise against vinegar.

I wouldn’t use bleach anywhere near the outers of nappies as it may affect the pul and then you’ll get leaks

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve joined the fb group now too. Feeling determined to get them back to a usable condition now.
