Hi - has anyone ever bought denby seconds?

Could you see any difference from best quality?

Thank you

Yes - all mine are seconds! The reason they are seconds varies - some have colour variations which mostly I find fine. Worth checking whether the items sit flat though as some have shape variations which means, for example, that the plate wobbles on the table which would do my head in so I reject those!

I have a lot of the seconds and I have no problem with them at all. I use my Clubcard vouchers to treat myself to them 😀

RedToothBrush · 26/10/2020 11:29

Everything we have is seconds. We bought them 14 years ago. We've broken 1 plate in that time and unless you were told you cant tell they are seconds.

We got plates, bowls, mugs etc. Everything still in great condition. No problems with shape etc, just slight difference in colour.

I genuinely wouldn't buy firsts as it seems a waste of money.

Madvixen - I am also planning a Tesco club card spend!

Thank you all - sounds like seconds are the way to go.

We have a mix of Denby seconds and normal
And we find that denby really chips. No difference between the two and chipping on both !

I just bought some seconds mugs. On the inside of one there's a tiny speckle in the glaze, it's barely noticeable at all. Would definitely buy seconds again

I have loads, they are brilliant. It is worth visiting a shop and buying in person as the quality varies. Often you can't see the flaw, or you can find it but only if you look hard but occasionally it is more obvious. Only cosmetic though, denby lasts forever!!!

I have a mixture of perfect and seconds. I have a “seconds” platter where it’s only fault us that the Denny stamp on the underside is slightly smudged!

Ariela · 01/11/2020 15:38

I've seconds from a set I collected up around 1982-1984, all bought as seconds.

I found that most of the plates have been casualties in that time, it's difficult to replace them now! Otherwise I've had a good 35 years out of them

I have 12 place settings plus platters etc. None of mine has chipped in 15 plus years.....
MissPollyPops · 08/11/2020 20:36

We have Denby plates. Not seconds. They're all pretty much chipped now..

Knittedfairies · 08/11/2020 20:40

All Denby stuff are seconds; as upthread, a dozen place settings plus salad bowls, platters etc. We've had them 20+ years and only had to replace a couple of items.

Rafflesway · 09/11/2020 23:04

We are fortunate in living within about an hour's drive from Denby Village.

We have just recently purchased a complete brand new set - our third in 40 years - which are all seconds.

The village generally has huge stocks enabling you to really inspect every piece. If you are careful with your selection the difference from "Perfect" is absolutely minimal.

Runningdownthathill · 09/11/2020 23:06

Where are people buying them apart from Denby village?
