Pillow protectors - how often do you change them?

Fascinating topic, I know. You're welcome Grin

So.... When I change the bedclothes I look at the pillow protectors and think ... what's the story?
Do you change them each wash and so have a spare set? And whatever about the ones on my pillows, what about those on guests' pillows? Not that we actually have any guests these days but one day in the future.... Who knows, we might have restrictions lifted and I'll be ready with my pillow protectors all clean!

Disclaimer: I'm not known for having the highest of standards housekeeping wise.

I wash mine whenever they look or smell a bit funky or if I think 'hmmmm' it's been a while. I mean, they are under sheets that are changed weekly (ish!) so how bad can they get?!

Bargebill19 · 25/10/2020 11:57

I do mine every other top pillow case wash. So roughly once a week.

picklemewalnuts · 25/10/2020 12:19

I do mine when I notice they need doing, and if I haven't washed the top covers often enough.

My guest bedroom's are rarely changed, as they get little use. The pillow case is washed every visitor, so the undercase never gets past it.

ApolloandDaphne · 25/10/2020 12:21

I wash mine each time I change my bedding. I have two sets so I can do this. I only have them on our bed though as my DH seems to ruin pillows very quickly.

Peridot1 · 25/10/2020 12:23

Probably every second bed change. With the mattress protector. I have one spare set and rotate it through two king size beds. DH and I have separate rooms.

Guest bedroom - probably about the same.

Devilesko · 25/10/2020 12:25

Every time I wash the bedding usually once a week/ fortnight the longest.

cheeseychovolate · 25/10/2020 17:15

Pillow protector, never owned one Blush

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 17:55

I wash them every time I change the bed although I dont always do that on a regular basis

Bargebill19 · 25/10/2020 18:11

@cheeseychovolate

Whispers —- mine are just old pillowcases..

dementedpixie · 25/10/2020 18:13

I need them as dh has a sweaty head and dd sometimes has nosebleeds. Keeps the pillows looking nicer for longer

Ninkanink · 25/10/2020 18:25

We have two sets of pillow protectors. DH changes them every time he does the bedding change as he is more fastidious than me. I am happy to leave them on for one more week if they are still clean (we change bedding weekly).

This does vary, because we change them as often as they need changing, so for example in the middle of a heatwave in summer we change bedding twice or sometimes even three times a week. In that case the pillow protectors would also likely be changed more often as they would get sweaty/etc more quickly.

Entrant6 · 25/10/2020 18:28

I have two levels of pillow protector.
Top layer gets washed weekly. Bottom level probably once a month.
My pillows are very protected.

Grobagsforever · 25/10/2020 19:10

Literally never heard of these.

What's the point of them?

Bargebill19 · 25/10/2020 19:17

@Grobagsforever

For me, it stops the pillows getting grubby and smelly. We are both nighttime dribblers. Plus it stops cats whiskers getting embedded in the pillows.

RedRosie · 25/10/2020 19:19

Hmmmm. I'd better do mine Blush

Once a month is probably about right?

Buggabooboo · 25/10/2020 20:15

Thanks all
@Entrant6 I am very impressed with your double pillow protection!!!

I change sheets weekly and wash protectors probably every other wash.

For guests I wash them all every time.
