Pest Control. Who to call? The Council or Private company?

Hello all I ask the above question because I have what would appear an infestation. Either way I will have to pay out of own pocket and my research has shown for the treatment needed, the prices are very much the same. I am just wondering is there a preference In so far as service I.e. follow up, complaints if need be etc?

What's the pest? Will depend if council will sort.

Your house insurance might cover it, depending on type of pest. Our council will cover for rats without a fee.

We have a rat in our loft... Our insurance company sent someone around from pest control the next day after we called them. Council would do it for free but it was a 7 day wait. So far the rat has avoided the 7 traps set by pest control.

I have had a number of problems and use a local company who are brilliant. They were really helpful, came and took the bodies away [shudder], helped block up entry points etc. And were very reasonably priced, they were about a third of the cost of Rentokil etc and I told them I'd have paid more to get it sorted!

Council will be cheapest. I had mice & the council man even talked me through the best way to exterminate them myself.
