What am I going to do with my whites!?

My new washing machine doesn't have a pre wash. It's a Bosch. Previously I washed my teenagers' white socks on a pre wash with vanish to get them really white. What shall I do? New machine on first glance can't do them as well. Thanks

Buy a washing up bowl and soak them in that, then chuck them in the machine

WineIsMyCarb · 22/10/2020 07:14

Laundry bleach. The pound shop and Aldi often have it in. Small glug of that in the fabric conditioner bit of the drawer, then dry outside (even if you have to finish them off for half an hour in the tumble drier or whatever at the end of the day).

Roselilly36 · 22/10/2020 07:17

Strange that a new machine doesn’t have a pre-wash option.

whyareyoulying · 22/10/2020 07:21

Ace laundry bleach in the fabric conditioner slot, works a treat

lagerandblack · 22/10/2020 07:21

My Bosch doesnt have a pre wash either, or a 50 degree wash setting. great washer let down by these two missing features.

Murmurur · 22/10/2020 09:14

Is there a "heavily soiled" setting? You might find that does the same job.

I miss the 50 degree setting too.

Is laundry black basically the vanish or oxy white powder in tubs?

I soak DD white socks in a plastic lidded tub with hot water and Astonish powder .

I just checked if my machine has a Pre-Wash because I've never used it !
It does

Loopzy · 24/10/2020 22:02

My Bosch washing machine doesn't have a prewash setting and I didn't realise until after it had been delivered. I used the setting regularly, but I haven't missed it. I add Vanish Oxy Action Platinum - Crystal White to the wash when needed and even muddy, grass stained cricket whites have come out clean!

forestsmurf · 24/10/2020 23:15

The laundry bleach I use is differnt from the white powder tubs. It's called Ace and is in a bottle I find it does have a slight bleach smells but an air out after use seems to eliminate that and it works a treat.

joblessintherain · 24/10/2020 23:18

Just do 2 washes, the first a quick one. I usually do a 30mins 30C if I want a pre wash (have a Bosch as well!)

nettie434 · 25/10/2020 09:50

My machine doesn't have a separate pre-wash programme either. You just select the pre wash option when going through the programme options. I'm sure you've checked this but just on the off chance your model is the same.

Selmaselma · 25/10/2020 12:21

My DC don't have any white socks, that solves the problem too.

anothermansmother · 26/10/2020 11:21

Is there not a quick wash cycle you could put them on? Mine is 12 minutes.

PumpkinsPatch · 26/10/2020 11:30

I'd do a rinse first with some Ace for whites.

PumpkinsPatch · 26/10/2020 11:30

Or sometimes I start the rinse. Then pause the machine so it's all sitting in the bleach water for a bit before unpausing.

Sweetchillijam · 26/10/2020 11:47

Soak them in Napisan or put some Napisan in with the wash.

vanillandhoney · 26/10/2020 21:02

We use the quick wash setting (14 minutes) with Vanish or whatever for a pre-wash, then just wash as normal afterwards.

Handbaghag · 27/10/2020 08:53

What a donut I am! Of course, the 15 minute wash should do as well. Thanks all!

I soak whites in a plastic bowl with fairly hot water and Co-Op own brand version of Vanish in the pink plastic tub as it's half price. Also same system for filthy muddy football kit only I use colours powder for that so as not to bleach it. The football kit is often so bad I'll put it in the bath and run the shower over it first before soaking.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/10/2020 20:38

Astonish bleach is just as good & not tested on animals.
