robot vac on offer on amazon - worth it?

www.amazon.co.uk/ECOVACS-Robotics-DEEBOT-N79S-Vacuum/dp/B07F3Q25LJ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

it cleans in a random pattern which could be annoying and/or inefficient.

but i'm keen on the idea

just not sure about this model (or any other, lol)

anyone got this vac or any experience/knowledge? i'd rather buy once than buy cheap but even the top end models seem to get mixed reviews.

I've been looking at the Eufy on Amazon offer that others recommended in here before. I would prefer a non random pattern and boundary strips though (so you can stop it going in certain areas) but those ones cost over £300 so thinking about taking a gamble on the cheaper model. Have old trusty Miele as my back up and for the stairs/car

I bought a eufy last year and absolutely love it. I'll never be without one again.

Em4815 · 14/10/2020 17:43

I have this one (or at least same brand) and I LOVE it! Definitely worth it!

Shortysoso · 14/10/2020 19:21

that's a relief! thank you. i actually ordered a slightly different model, a eufy
www.amazon.co.uk/Eufy-Upgraded-Super-Thin-Self-Charging-Medium-Pile/dp/B07DDDB34D/ref=sr_1_3_mod_primary_lightning_deal?dchild=1&smid=A2PGPJL0BBLHLX&sbo=Tc8eqSFhUl4VwMzbE4fw%2Fw%3D%3D&keywords=robot+vac&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1602699532&sr=8-3
seems to get good reviews and has sold a lot on amazon so fingers crossed.
am a bit worried about the fact that is says not great on dark floors but suspect that is due to the 'no go' strips which i don't intend to use.

jumbojem - the one i ordered has boundary strips but i think still works in a random pattern, which does worry me a bit, but it's £153 and there is such a big leap to get a machine which works in up and down stripes (so to speak) so i thought 'sod it'.

I’ve had a cheap one before and it was annoying and useless. I’ve just bought an iRobot 7+ for £800 (equivalent, I’m not in the UK) and it is worth every single penny. It’s genuinely changed my life! Grin

Shortysoso · 18/10/2020 12:45

Reader, I’d marry him.

Thanks for the encouragement. Life changing. I so love clean floors. I so don't have tine/inclination to hoover everyday. Robovac is the answer. Wish I’d done it sooner!

@Shortysoso I bought one too! The same as you I think, the 30C with boundary strip. To be honest probably didn't need the strips really but OH has a floordrobe/junk pile on his side of the bed I didn't want it getting caught up in. I was busy working upstairs while Eufy went round downstairs, it was great. He does get a bit stuck in amongst dining chair legs, they are wide enough for him to go in between the back ones but not go through the front. The good thing is it's made me tackle floor based junk.

Shortysoso · 20/10/2020 14:13

Hey @Jumbojem!

Eufy is the tops. I've not used the strips and do occasionally have to come to her aid but nothing major. As you say, encourages clear floors. Clear and clean. Never been such times.

Yesterday she started moving just as the dog was sauntering past her, the dog literally leapt in the air. 'Twas very funny, I'm still smiling at the memory. Clean floors, clear floors and comedy.

Win win win!

Mine has fallen down the stairs! Our house is 1970s so the banisters are vertical planks of wood with a 20cm gap between the floor and first one. Eufy reversed off the base when I removed the dust collector and went straight through the gap. The drop sensors are clearly only on the front. Eufy will replace, it's a bit scuffed and where the dust collector goes in has a tiny crack. However, he still works fine so I might just leave it.

userxx · 27/10/2020 09:00

Do these work on hard floors too?

mommybear1 · 27/10/2020 13:12

Yes @userxx I have tiled floors in most of the downstairs I have Alfie programmed to vac at 2.30am - I come down to a lovely crumb free hall and kitchen/snug daily Grin.

userxx · 27/10/2020 13:24

@mommybear1 Sounds amazing!!!! Might treat myself for Xmas!

mommybear1 · 27/10/2020 14:12

@userxx definitely recommend them have an eye on the Black Friday sales there maybe some good offers there. I have a basic 11s Eufy - there are a lot more higher spec models but my jury was out as to how this would actually work for us and so far Alfie has been a family hit my toddler in particular loves him 🤣.

userxx · 27/10/2020 14:16

Good thinking!! Yeah, I dont need anything too high spec as it will just be used downstairs on the hard floors. I'm wondering what the dog will make of it........ moving target and all that!
