Tips please for cleaning wooden floor - smudges

We recently had a new solid walnut wooden floor put in, and when the fitters left, they assured me that the smears left behind by their glue would come off, with wiping with a damp cloth.

Guess what? THEY HAVEN'T . Now my gorgeous floor has all these smeary looking marks. I have tried a spot cleaner from the flooring shop, but I don't need something that cleans small areas, as the smears are everywhere! Have been reluctant to try soap, as the floor has some kind of glossy (maybe oily?) finish. Have also tried a californian mop, mr muscle floor wipes but no success.

Someone please help, as this is driving me nuts!

Decorator's wipes from B&Q - they arejust alcohol wipes and bring the glue off a little easier. totally agree about floor fitter - we had the same problem and still have the odd spec several months later.

Thanks, I'll try those They won't strip off the shiny finish though, will they?

I have spoken to the fitters, but just keep getting the same story of how it comes off with a damp cloth, and that it happens all the time blah blah blah, but basically, they're not willing to come and do anything about it. Seem to think that its nothing to do with them.

you need to kick off.

Tell them it ISN'T coming off with a damp cloth and you want them to sort it.
