Memory foam mattress - Tempur or Simba?

ManCubsMama · 04/10/2020 09:22

About to drop £1800 on a Tempur mattress after trying them yesterday and deciding they are heavenly.

Simba is MUCH cheaper.

Thoughts and advice please.

Note- I was a memory foam, not Hybrid

Have you actually slept on a memory foam mattress before? I only ask as for many they sound idyllic, however, they gave me really bad back ache. I much prefer the hybrid that I ended up purchasing. Memory foam just isn't for me.

Smallgoon · 05/10/2020 00:21

Also, just to add that the Tempur mattresses didn't perform too well in the Which review. In fact, I believe it was Emma which came out on top followed by the Eve (which is what I ended up getting).

I have a Tempur and honestly don't completely love it. I wouldn't buy another.

ManCubsMama · 05/10/2020 08:10

I haven’t slept on one, only tried out in a shop.

Can I ask what about it you didn’t like?

Spring mattresses seem to feel like a bed of rocks since I tried a memory foam

I'm lying on a Tempur. I had back surgery and needed a firm mattress. I loved it at first but after three years, the side I usually sleep on has gone a bit squishy under my hips. Also, I'm not in a relationship but I've heard these mattresses are terrible for sex. I'm sure there are better mattresses out there... cheaper too!

It may just be personal preference. I guess I'd always slept on a spring mattress so making the transition to memory was not comfortable for me. I prefer a firm mattress and even the more firmer memory foam caused me issues. I'm much happier with my hybrid mattress. I feel I have the best of both worlds now.

I made a mistake on my previous post; the Eve Premium Hybrid did the best in the Which reviews. I personally didn't purchase the premium hybrid as it's £850 - I went for the cheaper version of this same mattress which came in at around £350. Very happy with my purchase.

I've had a Tempur memory foam mattress in the past but haven't tried the Simba. Much like @occa I actually wasn't that keen on the Tempur and I'm glad to have a regular sprung mattress now. The things I didn't like about it was that you seem to get incredibly hot sleeping on them- it would be unbearable in the summer. If you google it its actually quite a well known issue with them. Secondly as someone that is a restless sleeper I actually found them quite uncomfortable over the course of a night, if you change position you have to wait for the Tempur mattress to mould to your body and it can be quite uncomfortable and hard if you're the sort of person that can toss and turn.

Calmingvibrations · 05/10/2020 17:21

I love my Tempur mattress - but can’t comment on the other options.
They are a bit marmite though - my OH hates it, hence we now have 2x singles pushed together.
Can you buy from company where you can return if you don’t like. Avoid avoid bensons for beds for reasons I don’t have tome to go into

We went on holiday and the house had a Tempur mattress in the master bedroom after a few nights I decamped to a spare bed, it was so hot.

DH stayed in it but said he would never buy one.

We rented the house again and this time had house guests who were very pleased we had given them the master suite.

At the end of the stay they also said they would never buy Tempur as it was too hot.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 06/10/2020 13:41

We had a tempur for last 10 years. It was finally giving up and don't have the money for another one. So we bought an Emma one a couple of months ago and are loving it
Not sure what the longevity of it will be but so far so good

damnthatanxiety · 06/10/2020 13:54

Tempur = permanent hot flush

Justkeeprollingalong · 06/10/2020 14:08

I've had a Simba for three years, really love it. The reason I actually bought it was because you get the 100 night free trial. If at the end of that time you're not happy with it they come and collect it at no cost to you, and you get all of your money back. Can't lose really. I believe Eve do the same deal as well.

Ah the quest for the perfect mattress. The holy grail. The decision is too big for me. We just cling in to our springy 10 yr old lump of shite for fear of getting The Wrong One.........

ManCubsMama · 06/10/2020 19:37

@SummerHouse that’s me all over!!

Thanks for all the advice. Worried about the comments on it being hot. Would probably be fine for me but husband is already a hot sleeper.. don’t want to share with a big sweaty bloke!!

Went to try out the Simba today in JL and they didn’t have it!!! They had the Emma, gave it a try but wasn’t a fan.

Thinking we’ll get Simba on the trial

I wouldn't have a memory foam bed, too hot and I don't find them at all comfortable. We have a Sealy geltex hybrid with 2200 pocket springs. It's similar to this with a divan base. It's bloody wonderful.

SamSever · 22/11/2020 00:18

I had a Tempur Cloud Elite Mattress, in a previous relationship. Cost almost £1,900. It was an almost perfect mattress, apart from it amplified body heat. It could make you sweat! 8/10.

For 7 years, my wife & slept on a Simba Hybrid Pro. At £850-ish, it cost less than half the price as the Tempur and was, on the whole, comfortable enough. 7/10. It was, in truth, a compromise as we couldn't afford or justify the bigger spend at the time.

However, we then discovered that Tempur make a modified Cloud Elite mattress (exclusively) for Dreams and Feather & Black. It's called "CoolTouch Cloud Elite". This has even more comfort than the standard version...not too soft, not too hard...no sinking feeling....the main PLUS... the "CoolTouch" layer prevents your body from over-heating/sweating. Great for side sleepers too. Damn near perfection. 9/10.

The only thing I would say is, everybody's body is different. So, audition if you can. One other important factor, which most reviews do not highlight... Despite my preference for "TEMPUR CoolTouch Cloud Elite" for SLEEPING.... standard 'spring' mattresses are a better base for SEX - be it gentle or wild animal style - than 'memory foam'. Knowing that we spend over third of our lives in bed, it pays to choose wisely!

Thanks for all the replies.

Since my OP, I spoke to some others and everyone I asked raved about their Simba so I went for it! I just wanted to follow up to anyone considering it that I have been really impressed by them. The matrres is super comfortable and doesnt make either of us hot in the night, like we heard was common with the Tempur. The mattress we purchased is now reduced in their Black Friday offer (hate it when that happens!) so I contacted them and they kindly price matched it for me so I got a refund of £125! As well as the discount they're doing a deal at the min where you even get 2 free Memory Foam pillows worth £120 when you buy a mattress - bit.ly/2J2guIv Just sharing for anyone interested as I've been super impressed with the mattress and the great customer service 🙂
