Help! How do I detach this shower head?!

Hello mumsnetters!

I've just moved to a new place with an over-bath shower similar to this one (minus the overhead bit): Pesky shower

The head with the hose on it seems to be permanently attached with the little metal bit (technical term Grin) in between the shower head and the tap Confused How do I detach it so I can rinse the bath out?

It should just pull out. It may be stuck in there with limescale if it hasn't been removed for a while - in which case try vinegar or a limescale remover.

Hi @ItsGoingTibiaK,

I can pull the head out of the socket(? more technical terms) it's sitting in without a problem, it's the little metal bit further down the pipe that's causing me an issue. Looks a bit like a figure 8 with one hole in it for the pipe and one for the hose - am I making any sense?!

The hose should unscrew from the head so the hose can be pulled back through the figure 8?

@MissDai5y Genius! Problem solved, thank you! Wine

Glad you sorted it. For future reference, it's snappily called a "Category 3 compliant security hose retaining ring"!

(Its job is to prevent the shower head from dangling in contaminated wash-water and potentially back-syphoning it into the fresh water supply).

You need to post a photo

@ItsGoingTibiaK What a catchy name! You learn something new every day, eh? Thanks for the info Smile

@LesLavandes Couldn't find the feature or I would've done, would've made trying to explain things a lot easier! Grin This was my first Mumsnet thread, so I suppose I haven't earnt photo-posting privileges yet?

This is TOP information 👍. I have one of these things and hate it, have considered sawing it off. I thought it was just to keep the hose neat and tidy!
