I've got an urgent letter to send to Worcestershire (I'm in London). I just drove to the sorting office, but it's closed. Any thoughts, please?

Special Delivery seem to be getting through. I psted things on Friday that have got there today. But I think a lot of it depends on what time it is picked up from which ever Post Office you use.

Fauve · 08/10/2007 15:01

Thanks, CT, will try that!

Actually, just looked through the 5 I sent on Friday. 4 have been delivered but the one going to London hasn't been, so I guess it depends very much on what is happening at the regional sorting offices.

Well I posted a letter recorded delivery on Thursday morning, it still ahsn't arrived at the destination - the longer it takes to get there, the longer it will before I get my money
I was advised today to post letters in the actual post office instead of putting them in aletter box, and the lady behind the counter said "No parecles or letters are going anywhere in this part of the country

Fauve · 08/10/2007 15:53

Yes, that's my experience. I just drove to the Post office and they said no go.

However, there seems to be an idea that tomorrow things may change???

They are getting through, but only Special Delivery. The Post Office have said they are a priority and they are trying to get them through when they are supposed to be delivered, but have suspended the money back guarantee.

There is a memo that has gone to Post Office staff saying pretty much along these lines but telling them not to actively promote Special Delivery, the lady behind the counter kindly showed me. But it is horribly expensive compared to normal first class or recorded delivery.

chocolateteapot · 08/10/2007 15:58

Oh, sorry Fauve, I didn't see your last post. I seem to have been very very lucky then with mine.

Fauve · 08/10/2007 16:32

That's OK, CT I might try a different post office tomorrow, if things aren't resolved. Surely Gordon Brown doesn't want bad industrial relations added to his litany of woes?

I heard tha the Royal Mail was advising customers to not post anything until Weds.

I am waiting for my new SIM card, still not arrived but we did get post today.

MegaLegs · 08/10/2007 16:34

TinyGang · 08/10/2007 16:35

Yes how long is the strike for? I guess there'll be such a huge backlog that it'll take ages to catch up again too. I'm worried about posting things liek cheques in case they get lost in all that.

saltire · 08/10/2007 16:35

They were on strike from lunch time Thursday until Lunchtime saturday, which convieniently took them to the weekend, then from 03.00 today until 03.00 on Wednesday. Then more strikes starting on the 15 October, weekly I think. They are obviously really really wanting the British public on their side

Fauve · 09/10/2007 11:05

Thanks, everybody, for the info - not that it's very cheering!

Looks like it'll have to be communication by any other means, then.

so if they are on strike until tomorrow morning does that mean if someone posted something last wednesday you should be getting it tomorrow morning or is it going to be like next week now

this is ridiculous have so many bills due that i hven;t yet got - they better be waiving the late fees

saltire · 09/10/2007 20:53

must sleep, in theory it should be collected tomorrow, and delivered on Thuirsday or Friday in reality it will be next week (if it's not another strike day) that you get it.

mustsleep · 10/10/2007 12:57

ffs

have got some stuff today but god knows when it was posted

i dont think they are good enough at what they do to get a raise our post man put stuff through our door for all over the street

and they are striking again on 15th!!
