Duvet cover never fits duvet!

I have a king duvet and the king size covers I buy never fit they never reach the corners and because they are too big they get crumpled up and are very uncomfortable to sleep in.

Is this a common problem or I am I crazy?

the sizing on one or the other is mismatched or the cover has shrunk.
i'm very careful and measure twice before buying, also my king duvet is wider than it is lengthwise only by a small amount (comparatively) so that needs to be sorted before stuffing it in the duvet cover.

Yes!! I also have this problem! I sometimes find putting the duvet in "sideways" helps, so longer length sides of duvet and top/bottom rather than left/right if that makes any sense at all??

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 14/09/2020 03:47

Is it an Ikea duvet? They're different sizes.

TheTeenageYears · 14/09/2020 04:50

If it's standard UK sizing as opposed to European for either duvet or cover then i've never really had a problem as bedding (unlike clothes) do seem to conform to a general sizing. You need to make sure you are putting the duvet in the right way round though as there is a 5cm difference between length and width with a king size unlike a double which is square.

There is way more space then 5cm more like 5 inches. It’s just way too big even though it says it’s a king size cover. Doesn’t matter which way I put it in either there is still the same amount of space.

No it’s not IKEA but it doesn’t matter which brand it’s from either it’s always too big.

Just a size mismatch between your duvet which seems to be a small king size vs the covers. You’ll need to measure.

sherbetlemony · 14/09/2020 05:31

DD's single covers are too big for the duvets. It's really annoying as I also hate extra cover at the top and seem to be passing it on to them!

Count the squares on your duvet to make sure it's in the right way round. Longest side across the bed. Then stand at the bottom and pull the excess material to the bottom below where the duvet ends. Hold together tight and shake duvet within an inch of its life so it's all full at the top! Repeat nightly until you find a cover that fits!

I have this problem with my superking size duvet- I have 2 quilts (summer and winter) and 4 different covers and they are all too big- drives me insane as the bed never looks good when made as there are always some empty bits at the side. I now have another cover over the duvet to hide it but it defeats the object of the pretty covers!

MrsClatterbuck · 14/09/2020 05:37

I am using one of those new duvets which don't need a cover. They have a pattern printed on them. Mine is from Mark's and comes with matching pillowcases. I also got one from John Lewis. Hopefully they will do more in a greater range of colours. I do prefer plain ones. The one I have is 4.5 tog but I have a 10.5 tog for when it gets cooler.

CupoTeap · 14/09/2020 05:40

Have you tried a duvet cover from whatever brand it is?

bekindrewind · 14/09/2020 06:11

@MrsClatterbuck I didn’t even know those existed. I will go the coverless duvet route too I think. Thank you for everyone’s help but the covered ones are too much hassle.
